Dante Shells might not like the limelight in the high school sports scene, but it certainly likes him.

Coming off a football season at Caesar Rodney High School that saw Shells earn first-team honors on the all-state squad, the Rider senior is now starring on the basketball court.

He’s consistently led his team in scoring and has the CR team eyeing a chance to play deep into the tournament this spring.

Certainly did come out of nowhere bob...although sometimes its the kids who dont get all the hype on signing day that end up being the ones that make the biggest impact. Its good for us to have a big WR corps across the board...if he is as good as advertised he could be a great 4th or 5th option (especially with the talk of Butler coming possibly)

Im with Sly...for him to be tweeting about coming here as much as he has, I dont think itd be fair to assume that just because we signed this kid that all of a sudden Brice is off the table.

Butler hasnt even visit any schools yet. He has 3 finalists supposedly and Liberty is one of them. His current focus is a USC degree so I don't know how he would take Brice's scholarship unless the staff can't be patient.

Signing his full scholarship to join the Liberty University football team on March 8 was Caesar Rodney High School senior Dante Shells. He was joined by, from left, his sister Shanay Shells, his grandfather William Shells and his mother Stephanie Shells.

Dover, Del. — As we roll closer to the end of the school year, some local student athletes are making their preparations to compete beyond graduation at the next level.

Most recently, Caesar Rodney High School seniors Dante Shells and Kelly McKenna signed on to college programs for football and women’s soccer, respectively.

Shells will follow Rider teammate Miles Hunter to Liberty University, while McKenna is making a short trip north to join the women’s soccer program at Chestnut Hill College.
  • DANTE SHELLS — LIBERTY UNIVERSITY

    SPORT Football
    AGE 18
    HEIGHT 6 feet 2 inches
    WEIGHT 170 pounds
    HOMETOWN Camden
HIGH SCHOOL POSITION Wide receiver; defensive back
    COLLEGE POSITION Wide receiver
Why Liberty? Miles [Hunter] is going there, so he was putting my name out there to his recruiting coach. The recruiting coach came down here, talked to me, we watched my highlight tape, he took it back to Liberty, and that night I got a call from Coach Clark who told me to come down for a visit. I went down and as soon as I got there, I just got a good vibe from it. I was down there for three days and all three days were perfect. It was a good vibe and I felt like it was a better fit for me playing wise and academically for me to go to Liberty than to the other schools I had on my list.

What are you most excited for? Just to get back on that field playing. It’s been a while since I’ve actually played football. Plus, I have one of my good friends [CR senior Miles Hunter] going down with me. I’m really excited. I can’t wait actually.

What are you most nervous about? I would have to say making a name for myself all over again; starting young, like a freshman, and working my way back up to get my name out there. I did it here so I’m sure I can do it there at Liberty too.

What are your freshman year expectations? I’m not sure if I’m going to red shirt or not. They have three senior wide receiver starters so when they’re gone it’s up for grabs. I figure I’ll red shirt, get my body up to college speed, and by the time the 2012 season comes around I’ll be ready to go out and compete. But if I don’t red shirt, I’ll just have to go out there and work hard for that fourth spot. They run a spread four so hopefully I’d get that fourth spot.

The coaches don't recruit by position. they recruit by region. I saw coach streeter down here in GA last year. I would assume Coach Clark has this kids area of recruiting.
So the answer to your ? would probably be he's staying at WR
