We have LU dial up at home, and Mrs. Cider also bought an air card the weekend of the LU-WVU football game. But now she's decided she wants high speed Internet, so I called Comcast, and that was the price they gave me.

Do I have any other (cheaper) high speed Internet options in Lynchbug? (I live in the Maple Hills subdivision off of 221 South, near Sheetz, if that helps).

You should see if you can get DSL. It should be half the price (or about).

I pay about $39.99 a month with Comcast. I threatened to switch to Dish Network in December and they extended the new customer deal for another year.

The absolute cheapest way to go is with a "dry loop" dsl. A "dry loop" means internet without a voice line (it uses the same wires). If your physical address has had a voice line before, you should be able to do this.

I pay $29.99 a month with Comcast. I tried DSL at two different addresses in Lynchurg and the service was terrible both times. Not a fan of that so I went with Comcast. I think it is still $29.99 a month for 6 months and I just call and renew that price every time.

Flamerbob, that sounds pretty sneaky (and I like it). Comcast told me $29.95 for six months and then $59.85 after that.

$10.00/mo for me :)

Being a Sprint customer has it's privileges, at least something makes up for us getting phones 6 months behind everyone else.

Keep an eye on a place like www.slickdeals.net and search the hot deals section. There are always internet deals popping up. You should not have to pay that kind of money. VZ DSL might be the cheapest option around here.

Don't get Verizon DSL, whatever you do. Comcast will basically force you to play the game; call them every 6 months and complain about the price hike and they will let you keep the special rate...

Why's that? I've had it for 6 years out here in rural botetourt and it works for me.

BUMP

I've checked and can't get Verizon in my neighorhood. Mrs. Cider is getting tired of her air card and doen't want to do dial up, so if you all don't have any last minute suggestions that are better, I may be shelling out the big bucks for Comcast internet on Monday.

HELP! :pray

I've had comcast at 19.99 a month and got free router and modem. i'm not sure how long the promo is, i think 6 months. just google it, i think bridgevine is the company that put the offer out.

just be careful because they sign you up for an extra music thing or something you have to call and complain about, then they are hard to process the MIR and they didn't bury mine or my neighbors cables so they're gonna get cut when the landscapers come soon

This one is for a year. I go year to year with just about all of my things like DTV and XM radio and others that will put a new deal out there before that year is up.
