FTFY

makes me nuts

I'm beginning to shy away from "misinformed" and starting to think "intentional put-down" under the guise of "whoops- my mistake"

but that's because I'm a cynic

I wonder how many people would google "LU" if they were to hear it on TV when Rashad introduces himself during a game b/c they don't know what it stands for. I know I google schools and other things I come across that I dont know what the letters stands for. I wonder if it's the one percenter's that are doing it or quite a few more. I know that everyday that passes more are born that will.

I'm wondering this because if that's the case it would be more beneficial to have curious minds googling "LU" and driving them to our website then to come across the name "Liberty University" which they already know so have no need to research further.

All of these thoughts are for years down the road when the vast majority know the name "Liberty University" and we're looking to refresh the brand or enter a new branding market.

Ok back to lunch

Well that's perfect!! We could either go with a wrap around script on one of the mountains or just put a few letters on each one! :D
I do agree with propping up the use of "Liberty" in relation to LU. IMO, saying "Liberty University" has, with apologies to Dick Chaney, more "gravitas" then simply LU. I'm 50/50 on phasing it out of athletics, but most of that is from branding/logo/chants etc. LU is easier to put on merchandising and there aren't a whole lot of words that rhym with "Liberty". (Sort of like orange)
There is SOME merit to sticking with initials:
Most people in Knoxville are UT fans.
LA = USC UCLA
Indiana - IU (unless it has changed since I grew up there)
Bayou= LSU

Any thoughts on going all Buckeye and being "THE Liberty University"? :D

Sly Fox wrote:UT & Longhorns are interchangeable down here. Those backwoods folks in Knoxville can't even figure out a proper shade of orange. In Austin it matches the color of the football.
As thus my point is made!!! UT and Vols aren't as interchangeable.
And I agree about that orange. It always reminds me of Circus Peanuts candy. ugh. And what is up with that light blue tertiary color!?!!? Frightening!

I usually hear "Jerry Falwell's Liberty University" or "Liberty University, founded by Rev. Jerry Falwell."
Don't get me wrong, I LOVED Dr. Falwell, but at some point, it would be nice for the university's name to stand alone. I guess that will just take time.

Me I think the MSM will always refer to LU as Jerry's school, it fits their hatred for anything Christians.

This will change it will just take a generation or so....2010 was the last class to ever hear Dr. Falwell in person. For now he is the only national name attached to the school. In a generation his name won't be recognized in the MSM. So by default they won't reference him for good or for bad.

Nope, it will never change. UVA is still known as Mr. Jefferson's University and his influence there is pervasive 200 years after he founded the school. But, that doesn't mean UVA doesn't have its own identity. UVA is known for many things besides its founder just as LU is recognized for much more than who its founder was. LU is building a reputation in many areas and that will continue and multiply but, even 200 years from now, LU will still be Mr. Falwell's University. And, even that designation will become more and more of a positive even in the eyes of the MSM. It is amazing how one generation's media target can become the hero of future generations.

You do realize Thomas Jefferson was one of our Founding Fathers right?

What is sad is that the way history is taught in schools nowadays, people wouldn't know either of those facts!!
One of my best friends in HS wrote about the Evangilistic movement and influence in the late 70's early 80's. When he told that to his college Freshmen, they had no idea!
SO I go with you HMO - Its a Toss Up!

Jefferson's influence at UVA continues to this day, not because of his involvement in government, but because of his love for the school. He wanted the fact that he was founder of the University of Virginia on his gravestone but he chose not to include that he was president of the United States. Jefferson loved UVA and his vision for what he wanted it to become more than he loved government service and he made that clear. That is why it is still called Mr. Jefferson's University. I think Dr. Falwell made the same thing clear. He saw his involvement in politics as trivial compared to his role at LU. That passion and vision is why LU will always be known as Mr. Falwell's University IMO.
