So seriously, when did this area become so windy? Has it always been this way? I don't remember it being windy at all when I was in school. But it seems like ever since we bought our house (5 years ago), we have these crazy wind storms 2 or 3 times a year. Maybe homeownership just made me more aware of something like this, I don't know.

Has it always been like this in the Lynchburg area?

It was ridiculously windy back when I was in school. But like you, I didn't sweat it because I wasn't worried about property damage.

My parents live on a hill about like snowflex....I swear I thought the house was going to blow down a few times.

it's always been windy here, but being a homeowner has definitely made me more aware as well. that storm last night was ridiculous though, I don't remember anything that bad in a while.

LUConn's in the same boat up on Candler's. He tried to fence up his back yard, yeah, big fail. That fence basically acted like a giant sail. He now has an open border policy with his neighbors.

I never really noticed it much in Lynchburg, but I live on a hill in Salem now and I've definitely noticed it, especially when it took my storm door back in December. Being a homeowner makes you aware of things you didn't think of before.

I was out at Sheetz in Mad Heights last night and I thought my door was going to blow off when I opened it.

Well, I just finished rebuilding my garage that was knocked down by a tree in the summer windstorm. Now you are scaring me. I'm having the last large trees taken down ASAP. Cheap insurance.

Good luck with that. I'm sure your neighbors will love you messing with Lynchburg's perfect neighborhood.

Realize I'm a bit late to the game here but yes, wind storms are very frequent here, although in Lynchburg they aren't nearly as bad as Roanoke and where I live. Living in a mountain pass (and kind of on top of one), the wind narrows through the gap 80 mph winds aren't out of the question. Main reason for it is that when the Nor'Easterners pull up the coast, it creates winds down the backside that also downslope from West Virginia (which makes the winds so bad here). Also, it's almost always a Northwest wind, which makes it colder.
