Dwayne Carson is leaving

http://www.libertystudentnews.com/?p=652

news is confirmed by Bliss Spillar, my former RD and current pastor of commuters in this tweet:
My boss and friend Dwayne Carson is leaving Liberty University. He will be missed but I'm excited for him.
he is leaving to become an associate pastor at Genoa church in Cleavland Ohio.

I will leave my opinions to myself on his leadership at LU, but I will say I think that a church is a much better place for him to be then at a school and I have a feeling he realizes that as well. Good for him

Good. Maybe now they will finally reassess the way the Spiritual Life is set up on campus. Never much cared for the guy as the head of that department, but think he will do great in a church setting.

how would you set up spiritual life on campus?

the OSL model and motto (do i really need to post the 4 every's here?) works with the right people. now granted there is a lack of "the right people" (just not on my hall) across campus but that's not the systems fault.
*im a prayer leader now so my opinion is biased.

dwayne was an akward goof who was madly in love with acrostics but i remember a lot of what he said exactly because of that. and he had a lot of good stuff to say.

I know Dwayne Carson's heart and he loves Liberty University and has always put the students first. This would be a better place if we had more Dwayne Carsons.

He may have been annoying with all the acrostics and what not (I remember him doing a Super Bowl acrostic for Campus Church on year) but having known him as long as I have, this place certainly is better for his having been here...is he perfect, absolutely not (no one is), but he has a passion for raising up young people and I am thankful to have known him myself (even if there are some people who apparently are glad he's leaving)

As a former prayer leader, I wish him the best but I'm not sure he was a good fit for his position at LU.

I walked past him on campus today, and he looked so happy. May the Lord bless Dwayne's new ministry.

Really great guy, wonderful person to talk to and associate with one on one...although I have to say things really got sort of over the top and out of control in the spiritual life department when they took over the RA program. I was not a RA myself, but the amount of extra work that they now require from the RA's is ridiculous. It sort of made the SLD's job completely worthless to the hall as a whole, and the RA job much tougher than it was before. I'm really hoping that they move control of the RA's back to residence life, that way the new spiritual life department can focus on the SLD's and Prayer Leader's.

pbow, my daughter says that DC removed himself from any involvement with RAs, SLDs and prayer leaders last Summer. He became Campus Pastor at that time. Some guy named Campo has been taking care of the OSL this year and has been handling it in a completely different manner.

Dwayne is one of those Liberty guys with a great story. The story about how he met Doc is amazing...his family has also been very generous financially over the years at a time when the Ministry was in tough times.

todd campo is a beast. he was the former principle of LCA and im very glad to have him in charge of OSL this year, at least from my standpoint as a PL.

RA rant warning:

the current RA applicant process (which started to ease up under dwayne) has now become too easy. host week still exists but they dont have to run a hall meeting, (the five minute lesson given there is now given in RD group during qualifying weekend), and then there's qualifying weekend Friday and Saturday, and then final cuts are announced next Tuesday.

from what i understand this process used to be pretty hardcore and included pushing every RA in training (RATS) now called RA applicants (with the much less fun to say acronym of RAA) to their breaking point just to see how they respond under pressure, in order to see who can handle the job and not. (if any old timers here would explain exactly what they had to do back in the day that would be awesome). It is absolutely necessary that beyond all doubt that we have the right RA's for the job. RA's and the leadership team that they put together will absolutely make or break the hall experience for the other 56 people on the hall.

we need good RA's. liberty's identity and mission is really on their shoulders.

/end RA rant

Clayton King said that 100% of the money from the release of his new book "Amazing Encounters With God" at church on Wednesday is going to Pastor Dwayne and his family. he had nothing but praise for him (at least some people try to see the good in someone who has been around here for 27 years)
