Minaya has been clutch here. Let's not overlook that. Excellent job at the line.

The better team won. We didn't always play like the better team, but we wound up showing we were better when it mattered. Good stuff. A gut check for the team, and our depth was able to shine thru.

As I watched Minaya last year, I though, "what the heck is this guy doing on a D-1 team??". He has really turned his game around, and is one heck of a player! Can't wait to see this team continue to play throughout the season! Very impressive win tonight

This is a team where it's almost better not to listen or watch when their on the road. Just keep tabs on the final score. Watching them angries up the blood.

Our 3 headed center, Sommy Bur Pol, scored 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.

No kidding.

We shot 48%, they shot 36%. We played well in every aspect except assist/turnover (which is a big aspect).

Some other stats:

JB with 14/10.
Jesse with 13/6/4 but 6 turnovers.
Minaya with 12/7 in 32 minutes (has to be a career high in minutes).
Burrus, Ogukwe, Vanderpol combined 8 of 10 shooting from the floor, 16 boards, 18 points, and 6 turnovers.

I was at the game. We didn't play great but a win is a win. On another note Jesse is a class act. He recognized me at the end of the game ( bc im always front row at LU when im on campus) and said thanks so much for coming see you back on campus.

Man I decided to give this thread a look after getting back from Amherst and youd think that we lost the way some of you guys were talking. Now I dont mind a little criiticism but one we WON THE GAME!!! Why dont we rejoice over the fact that we are 6-1 in conference and once again got a win someplace where we havent won much and if memory serves, we got our (backsides) handed to us last season.

yea but this is a team who should have won that game by a much larger margin then they actually did.

this team is light-years ahead of where it was last year. the expectations should be raised.

I watched it, and we were sloppy and should have won by more. However it it crazy hard to play on the road in this league and I'm just glad they got the W. This team is sitting at 6-1 in the conference WAY ahead of where ANYONE on here ever thought.

but the thing is BJ if we continue to turn the ball over like we have been the wins will not keep coming and the promise this team has show will not pay off come conference tournament time. I don't understand why everytime there is any criticism you have to give this speech....and people weren't even that critical...

Lang's article:
Flames scorch host High Point down the stretch
By Chris Lang
Published: January 14, 2011
...But Evan Gordon, bottled up with a variety of trick defenses all night, found enough space to drain a 14-foot jumper from the right elbow, putting the Flames back on top and quieting the crowd. High Point wouldn’t get another defensive stop. Liberty scored on its final 10 possessions, the flurry making up for an otherwise rough display of offensive basketball in a 66-60 victory, one that moved the Flames to 6-1 in Big South play.

"The crowd was into it. It was extremely loud," Liberty coach Dale Layer said. "But we made big plays. We overcame turnover problems again with rebounding, toughness and big shots."

Liberty (12-7 overall) rolled at the end of each half, scoring on its final six possessions of the first half and the final 10 of the game to pull away. High Point used its athleticism to bother Liberty all night. Passing lanes were clogged, driving lanes non-existent. Every handoff was contested, every dribble harassed. Despite 19 turnovers and 33 minutes of unsightly offensive basketball, Liberty made enough plays down the stretch to win and move to 3-0 in conference road games.

And for any John Brown fans, lots of praise about him at the end of the article, esp. from High Point's Coach Cherry:
"He’s good," Cherry said of Brown. "He’s a talented kid. I think he’s the difference maker for that team this year. Sanders is kind of the motor, the guy that gets that engine running. He’s the vocal guy. But when you’ve got Gordon and you’ve got John Brown, I think Brown is the X-factor. He’s been playing well all year long and we knew he was going to be a tough matchup. And he proved it tonight."

One of the commentators said Layer felt like he "mismanaged" Minaya last year and didn't handle him very well through his transfer period which led to his struggles last year. Don't know if that's Layer-speak for "Minaya really sucked" but take it for what it's worth.

I think at this point I will make the prediction that if we can fix our TO issues we will not lose a game the rest of the year. I am not saying zero TO's. We just need to keep it to less than 10 and we don't lose until NCAA Tournament. You can't score if you can't run the offense long enough to take a shot.

Otherwise, this team is making all the right moves. Way to go guys!
