I put this in the UNCA thread but thought it deserved it's own thread.

What do you expect for the rest of the season? What would you be alright with the rest of the season.

Personally, I'd be perfectly content with going .500 from here on and finishing at 11-7. That'd give us a Top 4 finish and a home game.

Must Win
CSU (2)
Radford (2)
GWU
UNCA

Must Split
VMI
HPU

Could Afford To Lose To
Coastal (2)
Winthrop
PC

I really don't want to think about what the worst we can do is. There's no telling what a couple losses could do to this team.

I think a split with CCU, a sweep of CSU, a sweep of Radford, sweep VMI, beat GWU and UNCA, split HPU and split the roadie to PC/WU.

Thats 15-3 and a likely number 1 seed. Home court throughout the tourney. NIT bid if we don't win the tourney.

I don't think that's unreasonable either. It's on the higher end of what to expect, but based on what we've done, I think it's definitely possible. And it could change, such as sweeping HPU but splitting with VMI. But I think 3 or 4 losses should be a reasonable expectation for this team. We beat 2 teams that are likely top half of the league at home. We beat two teams that are likely middle of the pack on the road. I feel like we can beat Radford (bottom of the league) and VMI (middle/bottom) and CSU (middle/bottom) on the road and at home, but I understand we could lose to any of them. I just don't want to plan on, or expect that.

It's going 11-3 from now on. That means holding home court and stealing 4 road games. I think that's reasonable. Maybe 10-4, and 9-5 isn't bad or anything. I just don't want to consider the best case scenario of us losing a lot of games like you're suggesting. I don't want this team to get used to losing.

I don't think that's our "best case scenario." I was saying I'd be perfectly fine with those results. Obviously I want better and would love what you're saying, but if we went 7-7 the rest of the year I wouldn't be that upset.

I want to win the tournament. To do that we need 2 home tournament games and a regular season win vs CCU. I think we'll need some help from the bottom feeders to steal a few from CCU WU and HPU collectively.

I know what you're saying. I don't think anyone wants to see us lose 7 games but it wouldn't be that bad considering what we've done so far.

I just don't know we're going to start losing like that and be any good come tourney time. This team is still young. Too much losing might not be good for them.

And I don't see why we shouldn't shoot for the 1 seed and guaranteed post-season basketball. It's possible. It's within reach. No one has proven that they're way ahead of us right now in conference.

Especially if we can beat CSU. They've been giving teams trouble, but I just don't think they're that good. If we beat them and get to 5-0... I think first place is something this team can achieve.

I would be fine with 10 wins the rest of the way. That would mean that we sweep CSU, sweep VMI, finish the sweep of G-W, finish the sweep of UNCA, split with CCU, split with HPU, split with WU, split with PC and sweep Radford. that puts us at 14-4.

I am psyched with how this team is playing and I really hope they can keep rolling. I do think they will come back to the pack a little, and I hope we all remember this is a growing team that will have ups and downs. I think if we make the tourney and win a game, it is a GREAT year. any more than that is a huge Bonus.

I like to break it up with the home and road games and we have played MUCH better at home (save the GMU game) than we have on the road.

We have 7 home games left – CSU, CCU, VMI, UNCA, GW, HPU RU. I see no reason we should lose any of these games, but I will allow us 1 slip-up. So, 6-1 during these 7.

We have 7 road games left – CSU, CCU, VMI, HPU, RU, WU, PC. I don’t see us beating CCU, WU, or PC. We could win the other 4, but I will allow us 1 slip-up. So, 3-4 during these 7.

That’s 9-5 the rest of the way and 13-5 overall. That would definitely be a top 3 finish. Anything above that is gravy.

Yes I’d love the overall #1 seed but I don’t see CCU or WU losing 4+ games.

you don't see any reason we should lose to CCU at home with no students? We can definitely win but I definitely wouldn't say it's a game this team should win.

You guys are putting to much stock in Winthrop, obviously they are traditionally tough but they easily could be 0-3, winning in OT @ VMI and a bogus call got them a win over PC.

The sleeper is CSU. They are better than HP and WU. CCU may go undefeated, they have an SEC frontcourt with experience in the backcourt.

CCU totally embarassed us home and away last year. We are better, but it looks like they may be too. I would not count on beating them Saturday, especially with the students gone. If we can pull that one off, I will officially be drinking the koolaid.

I like what Layer said about the fast start in conference. He referred to it as "phony". Interesting choice of words, but I think I understand where he is coming from. It's like fools gold. It shines, but it doesn't have any real value, and if you get too excited about it, you stop digging for the real thing.

A bogus call? So you're allowed to grab guys during an inbound situation? I'll concede that it is a call that isn't always made, but I wouldn't call it bogus.

I agree that CSU is being overlooked...they will be a tough team to beat in the BucDome. Kelvin Martin continues to be the most under-rated/under-appreciated player in the conference.

And congrats to LU for starting 4-0...Layer has completely changed the identity of the LU team, and it seems to be for the better. It isn't always pretty to win on defense/rebounding, but trust me (since some on this board have mocked WU's style of play in the past and called it unwatchable/ugly), when you start winning with rebounding/defense, it looks just as good as any other style of play.

That's why your attendance is down and your President is ticked, (losing money). because no one likes watching YOUR style.

fair point...I think I mistook what I would be "fine with" and what I am hoping for.

THese guys are finding ways to win night in and night out when it matters right now and if we keep going that 14-4 is not out of the question. I think a winning record (8-6) the rest of the way would be something I could live with...

I agree that's why I allowed us a slip up. I see it as a 50/50 or maybe at worse a 40/60 game.

I thought MASN was picking up all of the conference home games. It is not showing up on the TV schedule though. SCAR, what's the word?

The Liberty University men’s basketball team, which has opened the season 4-0 in Big South play and 10-6 overall, will have its next game broadcast on ESPN Full Court.

I was just looking over our upcoming schedule. 5 of our next 7 games are at home. 1 of those road games is Radford. There is a realistic chance we could be 10-1 after those games.

Going into the season, I thought a top-4 finish and a win in the BSC tourney would be a success. While we are 4-0, I still am a bit leery about us finishing with 13-14 wins in conference. I think if we start clicking on offense a 13-14 conference-win season is a big possibility. We have the defense/rebounding, we just need to consistently shoot a good FG%.
