This was brought on by Rooster's thread about Tankless Water Heaters. I personally do not turn the water off - just never heard that before. I hate being cold and hate turning off the water, but maybe it's a waste of water or possibly - I'm not cleaning myself properly.

Maybe some follow-up polls? Do you use a wash-rag? Do you use bar soap or gel? Do you shave in the shower? Does anyone actually use the seat in the shower? (Keep your mind out of the gutter - they're many unmarried people on the board and yes, i know the ladies use it to shave, but this board is 99.7% men - sorry)

No way, this thread has so much potential to spark a multi-page conversation, something we've been lacking for quite a while.

I was gonna start a thread a while back about shaving techniques. I never got around to it.

As to your question are you talking about hand washing or showering? The answer is no on both accounts but one at least could be reasonable while the other sounds insane.

I actually do not turn the water off. When I was a kid, my parents wanted me to in order to save water. I guess my water bills aren't that high if it hasn't affected me lately because I am notoriously cheap.

Wait this is about showering? What kind of freak show turns off the water in the middle of showering? In the winter, I can barely even bring myself to turn the water off when I'm done and late for work (theoretically, I don't actually go anywhere).

I never turn the shower off if there is a normal water temperature. I have taken a few showers in Cuba with very cold water and turned it on/off.

My freshman year in college, I went to school in California. I had a roommate from San Diego that would yell at me for taking a shower without turning off the water while soaping up. He also became livid if the toilet was flushed without any solid waste. To this day, I tend to flush an extra time or two in his honor.

Never heard of this before. Would be interesting to know if the energy wasted heating the water up again makes it worth it in the first place.

Proto, another question to ask is, how many have a 2-headed shower stall? This may fall under the category of too much information, but I have known two separate faculty members that had those type of showers.

About turning water off to soap up, I think that is a Navy thing, esp. if you were on a ship or a submarine. I've also been to campgrounds near Lynchburg that the only way to get shower water is to pull down on a chain, so you are FORCED to soap up with NO water.

Showering... I thought it was weird to, but thought maybe I was weird becuase I didn't do it. Rooster - is it because the shower stall is to small, water conservation or a military thing?

Have seen many houses having this now. At first I was thinking that the husband was dreaming when he built the house, but realistically - there are many times where I could use that when time is short. Or even when my children use my shower - they wouldn't have to fight over the same showerhead...

My grandpa used to make us turn off the water while we soaped up. He said that the water was only there for getting wet and rinsing off. He is extremely cheap. I've never turned off the water mid-shower except when I was at his house.

have it.

love it.

I built a shower that is @6' x 4' so there is plenty of room for acrobatics. Plus, I also ran 3/4" copper so when MrsPA & are in there there is no drop in water pressure. Water goes on and stays on.

I also installed a separate water heater for the master bath so the wife doesnt run outta hot water in there or in her jacuzzi. (60" corner model w/ a ton of jets & its own heater)

My master bath is like a friggin' resort.

The only time I have ever stop the water in midst of showering is at my grandparents beach house due to it being a pull chain. I actually have taken the Kardashian/Bush method of showering and decided to shower together with my wife :P

If you are in the navy aboard ship you turn off water when lathering up, of course to save water. What a friend in the submarine service told me years ago.

I've heard of people turning the water off to soap up, but it's almost always been in foreign countries. This is America, it's our water that helped make us great, and there's plenty of it. Where's the patriotic emoticon?

And I'd love the second shower head. The honeymoon suite where I got married actually had 4 shower heads. It was awesome.

I turn the water off while washing my hands. It's like my wife has a radar that goes off when I don't.
Never in the shower though.

And I LOL'ed at Medic's "plenty of room for acrobatics" comment. Nice.
