That's not a real big step up.

He'd really have a challenge- though obviously its been shown you can win there

Solely based on that link, Temple fans have a really unrealistic view of themselves.

Yeah they do...why in the world would Chip Kelly even be mentioned on that board? Thats like us wanting Jim Tressel if we lose Rocco.

What about the Associate Head Coach/Recruiting coordinator at "The U"?

We're a little self-deluded if we think this would be a lateral move.

I think that's probably more of a likely scenario then Rocco leaving for Temple.

I agree other than it's not a head coaching job. I think Rocco may want to be the head man from now on in his career.

I think Temple is a bigger stepping stone than Liberty (obviously) but it is still just a stepping stone. You may be able to consider it lateral to some degree. It's no destination.

Yeah. Temple has a good foundation already set by Golden. All Rocco has to do is go there and win 6-8 games, go bowling and he'll get a higher job and at Temple it's not impossible and like i said Golden already built the program all he has to do is to maintain it. seriously, people don't see how anyone wins at Liberty and same with Temple so little success is going to get him jobs. Even if fails people will say it's Temple. it's win win, imo

Going to Temple when Golden already has his teams going to bowl games is not a lateral move.

I'm not getting into it b/c I'm up to my eyeballs at work but Bill Cosby alone will be enough for this not to happen. Anyone that knows that back story on that can share but I feel OK since it's Temple.

i was waiting for this thread to pop up. if im not mistaken rocco and golden were on the UVA staff together. maybe golden will tell him its just not that great of a job. im amazed golden turned it around at temple playing in an empty NFL stadium however their practice facility is nice though.

My opinion on "lateral". There's only a few degrees of jobs if you're looking to climb the college football ladder. (assuming we're only considering HC jobs). And within each of these levels, some jobs are better than others but the difference doesn't matter much.

There's the schools where there's no better place to be:

Florida
Texas
USC
ND kinda
etc.

There's the schools that are in a BCS league (some are great jobs some are only good because of the chance at BCS):

Syracuse
Missouri
Cal
Iowa
etc.

Possibly on that same level, there's the anomalies that don't have an autobid but have enough respect to earn an at-large

Bosie
TCU
BYU
etc.

Then there's the rest of division 1 football. From any of these schools if you do well enough you can climb to the next rung or higher. It may be more difficult at an FCS school than a bottom of the Barrel FBS school but if you're good enough to move to the next level, it shouldn't really matter anyway.

I know this is a rabbit trail but him wanting the Temple job seems so out there I'll throw this out there for some discussion.

So you're saying Karcher could win there?

Can somebody share the Bill Cosby story? I'm lost.

Really? Temple has been in the basement for a long time. They've had 2 winning seasons out of the last decade. How is this not considered a lateral move? We have better facilities and attendance.

Sorry, first day back from traveling and been playing catch up.

About 15 years ago (give or take) Temple was to play LU in football and everything was pretty much set (may have even been signed?) until Bill Cosby caught wind of it and threatened to no longer contribute to the school. I'm sure my take on this effecting the Rocco to Temple deal is unique but if they are not 100% sold on Rocco (if this rumor is even legit at all!) I think it could effect their decision. If you Google Bill Cosby donating to Temple you get a lot of good info as to how involved he really is. I'm sure his opinion on what we stand for has not changed much over the past 10-15 years.

All I know is for whatever reason he felt led enough to take a very forceful stance to them simply playing us....I could only imagine if they were to hire one of our own.

Come on bob. The simple fact of them being FBS means it's not a lateral move. There are about 4-5 FCS jobs which wouldn't be a lateral move (Montana, App St, etc.). It's not just about facilities and attendance. It's about conference affiliation, level (FCS/FBS) as well. I think Temple is coming off an 8 win season. We're coming off an 8 win season. Look at the difference in the schedules.

No big deal though since I'm not sweating this job opening one bit. ECU, yes. Temple, no.

temple is still not a good football team. Look at their wins from this year, several wins over 1 win teams and I-AA teams. I dont know what their schedule is for next year but if it's even slightly more difficult that could turn into a 2-3 win gig easily. It's not a job I would want. If Grobe has another year like they had this year then you really might have to ponder that one. Wake has really fallen on hard times in all 3 of the major sports.
