polls also say were number 15 or whatever...top 20 or whatever are in teh playoffs.. Trust rankings for everythign and you believe things like the MEAC is better haha. MEAC teams don't play near the comp. out of conference the Big South does either. This goes back to the argument that we should schedule crap teams like MEAC garbage NC AT Sav State and Nc Central just to drive up these rankings.

That is why you cant base things on just one number. SOS, Conference Rank, "Worse Loss", Best Win etc. blend into the equation. Take some time, do your homework and compare the numbers. Then make a decision.
Also, the "Top 20" don't automatically get in.

I already laid out the case for NDSU so feel free to go back and check it out. I am not going to do the same for every team. But a few pointers. Yes, the MEAC is a higher ranked conference then the Big South. Yes the Big South IS the worse conference in the FCS.
Make sure you look at the ARROWS they tell you how many positions up or down the teams have moved. The MEAC did not fair very well, but is still rated higher then the BSC.

Definition of Cherry Picking stats.

For every ranking you can give to show the "MEAC is better and the BSC is the worst" I can show you 5 that say the Big South is much better than the MEAC.

RealTimeRPI is not used in the GPI, which is what most conferences, and the Committee, use for tiebreakers and other selection criteria.

Using the GPI:

1. Colonial Athletic Association (22.188)
2. Missouri Valley Football Conference (27.234)
3. Big Sky Conference (29.097)
4. Southern Conference (30.403)
5. Great West Conference (38.750)
6. Southland Conference (39.875)
7. Ohio Valley Conference (41.792)
8. Ivy League (57.719)
9. Northeast Conference (58.125)
10. Southwestern Athletic Conference (59.65)
11. Big South Conference (60.554)
12. Patriot League (64.232)
13. Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (66.694)
14. Independents (66.844)
15. Pioneer Football League (70.213)

Massey Ratings:

BSC- 12
MEAC- 17

Sagarin Ratings:

BSC- 24
MEAC- 27

You may have found the only rating system in America that has the MEAC ahead of the BSC.

The Big South beat...

Akron (FBS)
Ball State (FBS)
Delaware State (MEAC)
Savannah State (MEAC)
and a couple others out of conference

The MEAC beat...

Mississippi Valley State who went 0-10, including 0-9 in the SWAC.

That is literally their ONLY out of conference win against a DI team. The only one. For the whole conference. They went something like 1-11, including not beating the Big South.

So no, the MEAC is not better than the Big South.

That is fine. IMO I don't think the MEAC is better than the BSC, both r absolutely abysmal! I am an old school RPI guy so that is what I usually base my stuff on. If they use GPI then that is fine.
I still don't think that we should have been invited because all of the arguments I have heard are about NOT winning games. Again, I don't care what other teams did that made it as I only care about what LU does and whether they make it. I have given several other scenario's that would have helped our cause. As it is, none of those happened so we are left out.
At this point, suck it up and move on. We didn't get in, our conference rep lost to the Leathernecks of W. Illinois (Tony Romo's alma mater? or was it Eastern Il?) and now we prepare for another season where hopefully we win the BSC and that will be the end of it.

Why don't you just wander on over the Mamby Pampy land where MAYBE you can find yourself some self confidence you jack wagon!!"

MAN UP everyone for crying out loud. And when all of you whining about us not getting in are done with the violin, let me borrow it. I was hoping Boise State would go all the way!

Romo went to EIU.

And the issue has never been "LU had a great season and deserved a bid".

The issue is that SCSU didn't belong in. And they proved that against GSU.

Personally I think they should have put JMU in. They would have given GSU a really good game, and they were probably the best team for that spot. But if they stuck to 7 wins, we were the best 7 win team left, or at least better than SCSU.

I knew it was one of the IU's LOL Plus, where else are you going to get a Leathernecks reference?
It seems to me a lot of people are making the case that LU DID have a great season and did deserve to get in.
I can't speak for SCSU, but again, I don't care about other schools, only ours.

I was one of the most critical of our season.

I also was the one making the case for us over SCSU.

I know we had multiple let downs, and winning any one of them gets us in.

But as things ended, we belonged in over SCSU. But oh well. Hopefully we've learned our lesson.

"Man up" .................................. or bend over?

If any therapy is needed it is by the self-haters who buy into this crap that we are intrinsically inferior and therefore don't deserve to be rewarded unless we are essentially perfect. Overly strict parenting?

20 teams get in. There are judgement calls to be made, and the only way you can do that is to look at other teams too and make comparisons.

I almost agree with you. :D

I don't think that we had a great season and (therefore) deserved a bid.

I do think we deserved a bid (based on the 7 win rule and considering the remaining teams). I was pleased (and surprised) that the committee stuck with the 7 win rule. Then they blew it with their selections. Personally, I don't think SCSU or NDSU should have been selected. Even though they beat RMU, NDSU lost 3-0 to a 4-6 team in their last game of the season. The committee then justified its selection (read: stacked the deck) by having RMU travel across the country to play them in their dome. But that's another story.

PS - Thanks for your comments throughout the season. Sometimes I didn't like them (or maybe the timing of them), but I always appreciated them and your honest passion. (ok, no more compliments to you for a LONG time - haha)

Well, both MEAC teams got destroyed in their games, and NDSU is moving on to the 3rd round.

For the last couple weeks, I always said that NDSU was probably in ahead of us, and they're proving why.

The MEAC proved why it didn't belong in ahead of us.

Oh well. Let's not lose stupid games next year and prove ourselves on the field.

Well, 2 out of 3 "ain't" bad. The MEAC did prove that they didn't belong, but I'm eating crow about NDSU this week. No "stacked deck" - they won the game with a huge 4th quarter on the road - got to give them credit.
