Enjoy watching him!! He's a great player and a better fit at Duke. Here he was a ball hog and would have never gotten better and neither would the team, IMO. He's in a system where he will grow as a player and become a better team player. Yes, being a local hero and the cornerstone of a University would have been cool, but he's playing for arguably the best college coach of all time in the best program and he's got a real chance of going pro. I'm not sure if he has the same opportunities here - Blair didn't. I WAS A HUGE DUKE FAN BEFORE, NOW SEEING SETH PLAY WITH THEM, MAKES IT EVEN MORE EXCITING TO WATCH THEM PLAY.

McKay would of stayed if Seth stayed, but I think Layer is a good HARD WORKING coach and the program will be fine in 2-3 years.

I do enjoy seeing his talent...it just makes me sick inside to think about what might have been. I also have always hated Duke, haha

And you are completely right about Layer, it will just take some time...its been so long since we have had any consistency in men's basketball, so it will be a nice change of pace

If, as it now appears, Seth's reasons for transferring were directly related to he and his father not feeling that RMK was the right coach to develop him into a pro, I have no problem with it. If it was the big/little/level of competition thing, I'm not so sure. Having spent 3 years at Davidson seems to have worked out pretty well for big bro.

yeah I don't think it had anything to do with Liberty because Davidson worked out alright for his brother...I don't have any kind of inside info but it seems as if coaching style had more to do with the choice then the school itself

Wasn't it posted some time ago that if Seth knew that Layer would have been our new coach that he (Seth) would have stayed at LU?

Of course Seth made his decision to leave first, so he could only speculate Richie would be going too, let alone who the replacement would be. I guess he probably would have met Layer, since he was still on our staff when we were recruiting him.

...but a certain basketball coach threw around the God card so frequently it made me sick. God isn't a God of confusion. He is not going to tell you one thing one week so clearly then the next week tell you something completely different. People like to say God lead them to do such and such as an easy way out so they don't have to face the criticism of being a coward when a certain great player left...
Notice I said head coach.

thepostman wrote:that is a very good point Haize and I agree to a point, but I also don't believe God is going to tell someone this is where He wants them to end their career and then turn around and say "JUST KIDDING!! I want you at uva" People misunderstand God all the time which is why you have to be very, very careful and pray very, very hard and especially be careful when you are a public figure.

Nothing is ever cut and dry, that is true...but I just feel like as soon as Seth left McKay got scared and went elsewhere and to avoid being too villainized he used the God card.

But I like Dale Layer and everything I am hearing about him is he is running a good program and if McKay never came here Dale Layer wouldn't be here, that is a point a friend of mine made last night and I had never thought of it quite like that
I haven't been able to get in touch with God's people yet, but I do have a few calls in. In the mean time let me offer a really BIG Picture view. WHAT IF: The previous situation was a difficult one for RMK and he was praying for guidance and opportunity. God provided the LU opportunity to refresh/renew his spirit. With LU being such a breath of fresh air after what he and his family just went through, he truly felt that this WAS where he would want to spend the rest of his career. However, once refreshed and renewed God opened another door for him that puts him in a position to continue a strong walk with God. And instead of leaving our program in a lurch God has provided a great coach in Layer, who's own spiritual journey may have come to a point where he needs the environement at LU as well. God has a tendency to provide.
See, playing the God card can cut in many different ways. Which, as I hop on my soap box. is the REAL intent of the "Take My Name In Vain" thing listed in some chapter in Exodus!

That doesn't even mean anything in relation to what we're talking about.

Which just proves my point. No one knows a man's heart but "The Big Fella". The problem is that too many people bring their personal baggage and bias to a situation and then play "the God card".
A comment like "Follow the money" makes no sense. Are you saying people were paid off? Are you saying that RM took the job b/c of ONLY money? THere is more than one way to interpret that rather vague 'accusation".

You know you're not over the "breakup" when Wichitaw State is playing UVa and you're actually pulling for Greg Marshall's team to win.

Cider, you dont have to worry, UVA is going to be pretty bad this year and probably next year too. THey are even younger than us now and I'm not sure they have the players they thought they had since they redshirted their number 1 recruit James Johnson and Kt Harrell is playing well below expectations at this point.

I actually didn't care who won that one. I did check the box score to confirm that once again Ehemem Orupke did not play for the Shockers.

He's huge and athletic, and the few minutes he has played this year he showed he can definately block shots and rebound. Actually I think he may be hurt right now.

Is he a bust? I'd say the jury is still out. Keep in mind this kid originally signed with LU in November of 2006, and he saw his first D1 action For Wichita St. a full 4 years later.

Might be a little difference carving a major role with a team that lead Connecticut by double didgits and handled UVA with a veteran group of returning post players rather than where we are as a program.

I figured he was saving himself for RD to get back into coaching.

Still not over SC, but it was pretty sweet seeing UVa knock off VPI in their ugly gray uniforms in Blackburg, 57-54, to open their ACC season. Good job, Ritchie! Play Basketball

There is no doubt that Bennett knows to coach, and RMK's offensive expertise provides a balance to his focus on defense. I'm sure the wins over Minnesota and VT are pleasant surprises to UVA fans.
