This thread would have been a good place for checkmate to agree that he is finally over it and then he could move on with his life. Get a job, reconcile with his estranged wife, etc.

Says the guy with the Virginia Tech username.
That opinion is shared by many throughout the LU community.
Usually when someone says that many share a particular opinion, upon some further questioning and research its just that one person and maybe one or two others who he had to talk into it. Its like the guy who sold frogs to restaurants for frog legs. Someone came by and heard a bunch of ruckus and made a big order. when he came back to pick it up, all the farmer had was 4 or 5 sets of frog legs. when asked the farmer sheepishly said, "I guess they made more noise than I thought." So unless youre willing to back that assertion up with some names I wouldnt say stuff like that

Beej, your stories remind me of that crazy old white guy that ends 60 minutes, Andy Rooney. For some reason I start thinking " where is he going with this" but at the end, it weirdly makes sense.

That is news. We didn't know you LIKED girls. Hmmm learn something new everyday!

IMO, there is no one to 'blame". SC has a chance to play for a national championship. Hands up if you WOULDN'T want to do that? RM has a chance to work with someone he has known for years in the best basketball conference in America. And, while I don't want to speak for him, I am fairly certain Coach Layer is happy for the opportunity. What happened with wishing people success?

(and nice Farmville comment from the peanut gallery!)

Well, Emily is doing quite well in Farmville, & of course, I wish her tremendous success.

As I have said from time to time, I believe our current coach is a good one, & I wish him
tremendous success as well.

& while we're cracking jokes about "moving to Farmville," could a little joke about "moving to LSU" be acceptable? (You know... the "loyalty" thing?)

Always nice to keep up with everyone, & the TT score sounded impressive, I thought.

How dare you throw mud on the white horse? Did not you read his account that LSU pursued him.

btw i have nothing to do with Farmville.

And a move to LSU would be a bad thing for him b/c? Again, why dog someone for making a move to improve their lot in life? IF that had happened let's take a step back and look at this logically.
RM - ACC
SC - ACC
JB - SEC
We begruge these people this? Wow. Just wow.

Quite to the opposite I wish JB would leave. My biggest issue is when the "God has called
me to LU" card is played as the resumes are flying out the fax machine.

So you speak for God now? . We are theoretically a Christian University so what are they SUPPOSED to say? "I am just here until I find something else?'" " I don't know what this whole Born Again thing is, but I hope it give our players an extra year of eligibility?" Name a coach who doesn't say the job they are in is the greatest ever and wants to be there for a long time? Being LU we just have to throw God into the mix. They are just words. (Although theologically, you COULD make the argument that statements invoking God as justification violates that 10 Commandment thing, but I will leave that to Ergun)
If DR leaves for UVA, do we blame him?
If CG leaves for Clemson, do we ostricize him?
If SP leaves for Pepperdine is he a hypocrite?

If we're losing coaches to be head coaches at BCS schools, or administrators to be head guys at BCS schools, I'm okay with that. It means we're doing something right and they've been doing things well for us. Obviously I'd love for them to completely buy into Liberty and want to give everything they have to this school, but the truth is unless they went to Liberty, they probably aren't going to buy in as much as we do.

I am ok with it to Jon as long as it is done the right way and the classy way because honestly that is who we are as program and shouldn't come as a shock

...but a certain basketball coach threw around the God card so frequently it made me sick. God isn't a God of confusion. He is not going to tell you one thing one week so clearly then the next week tell you something completely different. People like to say God lead them to do such and such as an easy way out so they don't have to face the criticism of being a coward when a certain great player left...

You're ignoring the circumstances. Nobody wanted either of them. As long as we're working with relationship analogies, they were both the geeky girl that nobody wanted to take to the dance. LU could see behind the nerd glasses and now that everybody see's she's hot, she leaves us for Johhny Popular. And we should be happy for her?

Not to mention that McKay's whole deal was NOT about him upgrading. 1. An assistant position is not an upgrade over a head coaching job no matter the conference. 2. He is a coward and didn't leave to upgrade himself or help out his friend. That kid was his entire plan.

But yay, the ACC is better than the Big South so anything that happens in between is inconsequential I guess.

Even though UVa is one of my alma maters, when I turned the TV on last night and saw McKay's team getting blown out by 40 against Washington, if felt kind of good to see the pain in his face.

I grew up a huge UVA fan, and I now get pleasure out of their failure on the hardwood.

POST - I can understand your frustration with the God card. I don't like coaches or anyone to use it period. However, I believe you may want to reconsider your position. A person can be working somewhere that the feel God wants them to be. Someone asks them about it on a Monday and they say "This is where God wants me to be." Then on Friday they get a job offer from Company B that they feel God wants them to be at. What do you do? This is why IMO playing the God card is a two edged sword
LUCONN - I would disagree with you that going from a HC at a BSC school to the Associate Head Coach at an ACC school is a move DOWN. While you may be privy to his "recruiting plan" I am not sure that SC was his "only" recruiting plan. Plus, calling him a "coward" is a bit mcuh. We have seen examples of cowardice and what he did wasn't close.

that is a very good point Haize and I agree to a point, but I also don't believe God is going to tell someone this is where He wants them to end their career and then turn around and say "JUST KIDDING!! I want you at uva" People misunderstand God all the time which is why you have to be very, very careful and pray very, very hard and especially be careful when you are a public figure.

Nothing is ever cut and dry, that is true...but I just feel like as soon as Seth left McKay got scared and went elsewhere and to avoid being too villainized he used the God card.

But I like Dale Layer and everything I am hearing about him is he is running a good program and if McKay never came here Dale Layer wouldn't be here, that is a point a friend of mine made last night and I had never thought of it quite like that

1. I believe that Lou Holtz had an "out" in his contract @ Minnesota should Notre Dame offer.
(Honesty)

2. Anyone could have read Mckay's resume & seen this one coming.
(Bad Hire)

3. It did work out well in the end.
(Layer)

4. I loved the Smyrna reference.

I can only speak for myself, but I am not angry with Seth...I was disappointed he left of course and the more I hear about his reasons for leaving the more I think it was right for him...its too bad though because I think Dale Layer would've been good for him

EDIT: and it does make me sick to see him in a Duke uniform...its just so hard not to think about what might have been...but I don't blame him one bit
