Then we get to deal with the frauds that run the BCS well probably not right away but like it our not the FCS is probably the better system. Although I'm still all for moving up as soon as possible.

Lose 2 games we should have won RMU and CCU, you don't get in. Bottom line. based on talent, we are way ahead of those 2 teams and if we play them 10 times, we win at last 8. but we didn't.
I am glad that Barbour was there, maybe he will gain some insight that will be helpful down the road.
But then again, all we have to do is win the lousy conference most complain about ,and no committee.

Maine making it over William and Mary was so much worse then this, its silly to even think that this is THAT bad...

were we better? probably...but this is what happens when you leave it in their hands. Committees have proven that they are far from perfect...

I am not sure how what I am saying is belittling anyways. Simply because I don't think its highway robbery??Because I disagree??
Because you said the conversation was dumb because I made a valid point you disagreed with.

I'm just really ticked off dude, and you presenting NO FACTS and just telling me I'm wrong makes it worse.

All I've done all week is present facts. Then you saying "we don't deserve it blah blah blah" and then going on and on about how a team that lost to Presby should have made it.... it's impossible to have a discussion here. Yes, now I am "belittling" because I'm sick of it. Ignorant opinions should be called ignorant. Yours is.

History shouldn't win. They did nothing this year. Nothing. This is a joke.
ahhh I see...so I have to tip toe around when you are ticked off?? Maybe I shouldn't of said that without presenting facts, but I wouldn't really call that belittling...but you're mad and you get fired up over this stuff to a fault so I should be use to it by now, haha

I get what you are saying and I honestly don't think the committee made the right choice...but these committees are all the same whether its the basketball committee or the FCS committee...

I guess I prepared myself for this because I haven't followed FCS as a whole very in depth this year and just knew from looking at the past that we wouldn't make it...simple as that.

Agree with it or not that is the way it is with these people...I am still more angry we let Coastal slip by us AND the absolutely ridiculous big south tie breakers then us not getting an at large bid

But we've never had this expanded playoffs with so few teams even having the 7 wins this year was different and the committee continues to amaze...

So, by SCSU getting in ahead of us, does all the crowing about scheduling cease to have sound basis? I mean, schedule light and win 9-10 games, and you have just as much if not a better chance of making the playoffs. Am I right?

"Liberty’s entire resume was based on good losses and one decent win—at Ball State. The other FCS teams LU beat were: 1-10 St. Francis, 1-10 Savannah State, 3-8 Charleston Southern, 3-8 VMI, 2-9 Presbyterian, 4-7 Gardner-Webb and 6-5 Stony Brook. That’s a combined opponents record of 20-57." Chris Lang's blog

Yes. If we played a DII and, say, Delaware St. instead of JMU and RMU, we'd have been in. Or at least, following this pattern.

I really want to schedule SCSU. Is there anyway we can back out of a home-and-home? Or play a 12th regular season game? I'd even be willing to play SCSU at their dump.

That would certainly be scheduling down.

They're ranked lower than TOWSON in the Sagarin. What a joke.

No team ranked lower than us, that didn't have an autobid made the field. Your particular beef is with SC State. They are ranked higher than us. So, based on this theory, they deserved to be in ahead of us.

And FBS is even worse. At least here, every team controls their own destiny from day 1.

Here's Chris Lang's take...
Liberty was not one of the 10 at-large teams selected for the NCAA FCS playoffs Sunday morning.

It was over the second North Dakota State’s name hit the board on ESPNU’s selection show.

Or more likely, it was over the second the clock ran out in Conway, S.C., two weeks ago. The Flames had an argument to get in, but as I left the press box last night, I was convinced it was a 50-50 shot, and the Flames were battling with North Dakota State, Montana and Jacksonville for that last spot. South Carolina State was going to get in. A 9-2 team from an auto-bid league—no matter the computer numbers—was not going to be denied. And the fact that SCSU resoundingly thumped the same Florida A&M team that beat previously unbeaten Bethune-Cookman on Saturday cemented the Bulldogs’ place. I didn’t even think the Flames were competing with SCSU. The Bulldogs were in.

How many ADs actually participate in the poll? Did LU's AD participate? The reason I am asking is this: If LU was one vote away from being one of the 20 and our AD was there, then it might have been wise for him to stay home since he obviously would have to abstain on LU. Does anyone have any insights on this?

Actually, I am surprised that there isn't more of an uproar about NDSU than SCSU. They lost 3-0 yesterday (are you kidding me, 3-0?); they have a weak resume; and some polls had them rated lower than us BEFORE yesterday.

They finished ranked 25th, and had a worse record than us...

I posted this question once but it didn't show up so I'll try again. How many ADs participate in this poll? Did LU's AD participate this year? The reason I ask is this: If LU was within one vote of being in the pool of 20 and our AD participated, then he would have been smart to decline. I am assuming that an AD can't vote for his own school. Does anyone have any insights into how this works?

South Carolina St is rated ahead of us and has a stronger Strength of Schedule.

With more than double the budget of our conference opponents 14 million a year, we should be able to win the Big South conference outright.

We probably have the top budget in all of the FCS.
We? I didn't know VT played in the FCS

If this is true, why would anybody schedule difficult teams? I mean we schedule some cupcakes but in the future just schedule the lowest of the low. We could be 9-2 not even showing up playing St. Francis-like teams 5 times and then 6 BSC games. You don't even have to win the league.

Lefty,

I respect your opinion. I think you and I are the two who follow FCS nationally more than anyone on this board. You believe we were seriously ripped. I can understand a beef, but I don't think it was that cut and dry. Why do you think we deserved to be in that much more than SC State?

They had no wins worth anything, and the loss to B-CU is bad (in the eyes of computer rankings, but not poll voters). They didn't play an all-DI schedule. They did nothing OOC, and they're in a terrible conference.

I think the Ball State win, and our all DI schedule (which is something the committee specifically mentions as part of the criteria) sets us apart, whereas SCSU has nothing to stand on. If it was just about "not losing", send Jacksonville, they did it better than SCSU, and beat ODU, who is better than anyone SCSU beat.

Nothing about SCSU stood out. LU, Dayton, JMU all had things that stood out, and any of those 3 should have been in.

The loss to BCU is not bad. They won their conference, and in the committee's eyes are a top 12 team based on their bye. They also lost to an FBS school. So, no bad losses.

We have 2 wins better than theirs - Ball State and Stony Brook. Although the committee could have treated the win over SBU as an equal to their win over FAMU.

But we had 3 losses to FCS teams, SC State had 1.

We both play in dreadful conferences.

In the end, the committee sided with their no bad losses, no good wins was better than our 3 FCS losses and 1 FBS win. That can be debatable, but I don't see it as cut and dry.

What do I not see here?

I think B-CU is crazy overrated. That's probably why I'm so sold. The MEAC is BAD. B-CU is nothing special. and they shut out SCSU, at SCSU.

From the RPI

MEAC - 23
Big South 26

SCSU - 7-1 8-2 SOS - 144 RPI 130
LU - 3-1 8-3 SOS - 205 RPI 141

So according to RPI we play in a weaker conference than SCSU. We can point at BSU as a big win. You could call SB a big win. But my question remains are they SIGNATURE wins? You may be seeing a theme with my posts: WIN. If we WIN we are IN. Once we PROVE we can win BIG TIME GAMES (JUM/CCU) then we will be rewarded. Until then, enjoy your frustration.
