If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

I would like them to seriously pursue Notre Dame and Navy. Both would be football-only and strengthen the conference. In an ideal world, it would be Notre Dame and BC, but I doubt BC can get out of the ACC.

I don't understand the value in adding ONLY two teams. The reason this entire expansion thing got started was because other major conferences wanted to be able to bring in the money from a championship game, and you need 12 teams for that.

I say go with Villanova, Central Florida, TCU (although I HATE it when schools add a team that's not a geographic fit) and, I dunno, Navy or Notre Dame or Memphis or somethign.

LU in the Big East makes no sense.

1) It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too big of a jump
2) Where do all are other sports go if football went there? Can you imagine being in the Big East for football and the Big South for everything else? I can't.

I think Proto was just saying make a bid simply to send a message that this is what we're doing. Not that we would get in. We're a fairly delusional fanbase but not that delusional.

BC left the Big East for the ACC, they're not going back and I doubt many in the Big East want them back after that ugly battle.

I think the Big East would gladly take BC back if they could. And BC knows that's where they belong. I was just talking ideals, it won't happen.

I would assume prople in our AD office already have a feel for this playing out and the fall out. With that assumption, I'll bet they already have a plan in place to take advantage of an opening in the CAA or maybe even CUSA. Thus the consultant and his report being conducted.

If we could get into USA straight from the BSC that would be the slickest move from LU since they used that Moon guy's funds to pay off debt

I think the CUSA is destined to be sub mediocre. Too much travel, too many members in flux. It just always seems to be a mess. If a choice between CUSA and a new conference with our moving up buddies, I'd choose the latter. The question is, if the former was actually an option, do you jump on it or do you hold out for the better scenario.

You're joking right?! If the CUSA wanted us we'd be gone in a second. Come on - Big South or CUSA. No brainer. You can't wait around hoping the CAA, ACC, Big East, etc will want us.

I'm not talking about the CAA moving up. I'm talking about the like-minded FCS schools that are going to. It seems inevitable, that the ones we've talked about are going to. And it would make sense to stick with them. Given a choice between the 2, I'd rather be in a new league comprised of FCS jumpers than the CUSA. But obviously you probably wouldn't get a choice.

I have an odd question:

What is our ultimate goal as a program? Obviously, we want to be competing for a national championship. So what does that mean for us, in terms of a conference?

Are we hoping to pull a TCU, dominate the conference that we're in and hope to get an invite to the SEC / ACC / Big East?

What is everyone on this board hoping for?

Indy baby if we really want to be the evangelical ND or BYU do we have a choice  But seriously loooonnnnggg term I don't know why we couldn't be independant (long term like 40+ years). But for now my understanding is that you have to be invited into a FBS conference to move up (unless that changes) so we as of now just have to find any FBS conference that will take us.

Well TCU not joining the Big East would (if they decline) give FCS teams on the east coast a better chance at making the move, because the Big East is likely to pull some teams from Conference USA. Conference USA will likely to replace those lost schools...

I doubt Liberty would ever get an invite to join the Big East or ACC directly from the FCS level, and I doubt Liberty would ever get an invite from the SEC regardless of where we're coming from.

The way I see it is that Liberty needs to make the jump, and go from there. If you look at teams like Boise State, they made the move and got other invites from performing on the field. Liberty will have to do the same. As others have said, maybe independent is in the very distant future.

Maybe maybe not I view it as the same argument that we have on hear if we have to have long term success at the FCS level to be successful at the FBS level. I say no to both...you just need money baby and LU is in a unique position where they can stand for something beyond just a school... when marketed properly LU will (and already does to a degree) stand for evangelicals the same as ND is for catholics (have you ever met a catholic who didn't like ND reguardless of where they went to school? same thing at BYU). Thats LU now to a degree and with the presence of an FBS football team that will be exponentially greater. Also as a rule who wants to buy the Big 10 network outside of the Big 10? or a hypothetical Texas network outside of Texas? While sure there are limited alum living outside those geographic boundries the lack of population density makes it difficult to provide and be profitable (outside of there natural area), while ND has every game on national TV. Why? cuz they have a national base, made up of not only alum but anyone who claims the catholic faith.

I think you'll find the consensus believes that the only way we're getting to FBS is through CUSA or the creation of a brand new conference.

Geographically, we fit pretty well with CUSA. I'm not so sure I see us getting an invite though, as we're probably the 9th or 10th option out there right now.
