That you can kick it out of the end zone for a point??? Why did the guy even angle it at the post then? Why didn't he pull it to the left, giving him a much straighter shot, to make sure no opposing player could knock it down? Kick it 10 rows deep.

I just can't understand why rules would reward a team for kicking the ball out of the back of the end zone.

Higher scoring, adds in more strategy with being able to defend against it. I like it. No more of this "let's get a kicker who can't kick it out of the end zone, but he's really accurate!" Chicks dig the long ball. Let everyone put on their Sebastian Janikowski shoes and go for distance. Or imagine having a guy like Wes Welker back to catch the ball and punt it back. Dude already knows how to kick, so he could boom it out of there and would have won the game for his team, or forced OT I guess.

Also, he couldn't kick it 10 rows deep. It was 56 yards to the back of the end zone. Even the best NFL kickers are gonna struggle to get it out of the back of the end zone from a hold with blocking like that. However, his attempt at the drop kick was pretty pathetic.

And imagine Rocca, the Eagles punter, former Aussie Rules guy. He could dominate this sport.

Obviously, "10 rows deep" was an exaggeration about just kicking the ball out of the end zone so far that no one could knock it down.

That doesn't add strategy. That rewards an "attempt". So in this scenario, if they were at the 10...forget kicking through the post....don't worry about that skill...just kick it out of the back for 1 point. Yee-haw....great finish....great game.

Drop kicking to advance the football, is a different story. Drop kicking through the post for points, is a different story. Kicking out of the end zone for a point, is asinine.

i think theres a rule like if you make a 50+ yard field goal its 4 points.

im probobly completely wrong there but i think ive heard that somewhere before.

it wouldn't work on our field. the goalpost lines up with the back of the endzone. their goal post is at the front of their 20yd endzone.

Texas football player kicks drop goal

On October 20 at Nelson Field in Austin, Texas, JV Kicker Jason Pan kicked a historic drop kick for the extra point. The rarely-seen kicking technique has been all but extinct since the early-90s, deemed too difficult and ineffective for competitive play.

However, the coaches at LBJ High School opted to use Pan's unique skill - first acquired through his background in competitive rugby while playing with Austin Area High School Rugby - when their football team scored a touchdown within the first minutes of their district championship game.

The referees (after stopping the game to consult a rulebook) awarded two points for the kick, surprising the crowd and the coaches, who believed the drop kick was worth only one point.

After the game, both players and coaches noted Pan's possible impact on not only LBJ's offensive game, the whole of Football. Having a kicker able to drop kick for two points with the reliability of a one-point place kicker is a "real weapon," remarked Assistant Coach Glen McNeil.

Jason is currently a Junior at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy High School, and plays for both the LBJ Jaguar Football team and Austin Area High School RFC. He is also well-known for boldness on kickoffs, often sprinting ahead and pinning the opposition himself.
