Councilman Mike Gillette questioned the costs of the bridge pointing out the city just paid a $100,000 to study the at-grade option, which everyone, including LU, agreed on a year ago.
$100,000 to study that? They got taken to the cleaners.

That's a business I need to go into. All studies are expensive. I remember the YMCA racquetball study that they said cost 100k

having been at the council mtg in question (for the city bow hunting ordnance), the $100k included planning and designing the crosswalk as well as the surrounding walking paths, etc...

I'm cool with that, I have a lot of work I want to get done around my property. The snow kinda killed that last year.

Even so, I think I trust the Farmer's Alamanac more than these guys. Anyone know what the Almanac is predicting?

Well, there is an old country legend that states the more acorns, the worse the winter.

Farmer's Almanac, from what I heard, is calling for another horrible winter.

Here's my prediction: It will either snow a little, a moderate amount, or a big amount depending on the positions of the various highs and lows combined with the direction of the moisture and of course the upper level and surface temperatures. Temperatures this winter will be ranging from rather mild to cold with bitter windchills depending on the day.

Not at all - we had one bounce over our house off Leesville Rd in Campbell county in 2002. A neighbor's mobile home 1/4 mile away took a direct hit. Another neighbor's tractor and trailer were left on their sides about 200 yards from our house. Scary event for sure. The same tornado started near Bedford and followed 460 through here to Lawyers road.

Mountains do not deter tornadoes, and at least 30 significant tornadoes have crossed the Mississippi River since records started being kept.

Translation: One can happen anywhere at anytime.

Weather report for Saturday at Conway, SC, home of Coastal Carolina University, is 70 degrees and sunny, with zero percent chance of rain. http://www.weather.com/weather/weekend/USSC0070

Also, if you visit the local Wal-Mart on Wards Road, they have a whole ROOM in the front stocked college gear: the smaller side walls are devoted to UVA and Tech, and the whole back larger wall is devoted to LU. I never that I'd see the day when a local Wal-Mart would carry more LU merchandise than they would of UVa and Tech stuff.

Homecoming weekend they had that entire area up front devoted to LU gear and they couldn't keep it up on the shelves.

First snow of the year is supposed to be Saturday night (other than random flurries). Where's our radar map at? They say less than an inch. Boo-urns.

What is it with only snowing on the weekends...last year I was stuck inside three different weekends and only had one day of missed work  What's the purpose of snow if not for a snow day.

That radar does not show the flurries we had in the Roanoke valley.

That's because the radar doesn't care about you either.

No concerns of snow here. A cool front passing through tonight will drop highs tomorrow into the 50s.

Highs in the 50s in December sound good, but highs in the 110s in July don't.

We have broken triple digits here maybe a dozen days in the 8+ years I have lived in Houston. It doesn't get any hotter here typically than it gets in Virginia ... it just stays that way for 6-7 months instead of 3.
