A Lynchburg man has filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Liberty University and two of its police officers, alleging false arrest and excessive force from an arrest on campus last year — charges the school and its police force deny.

Anthony Howard, a former city council candidate, filed the suit on Oct. 7 in U.S. District Court in Lynchburg. On each of the five claims in the lawsuit, including two claims of civil rights violations, Howard asks for between $1.2 million and $800,000 in damages.

Glad I don't. I would find witnesses and have the state file child abuse charges. I know the officers referenced here and none of this could be further from the truth...

Hinkley is a good man and this doesn't add up. When it says that he got sprayed and then they left - that statement right there proves that the guys a liar - if they sprayed you - you would be arrested, not left alone.

Or "they approached us like we were some child abusing parents,"

Or "they approached us like we were bitter losers trying to make trouble,"

They have a badge - if they ask questions - don't get upset - just answer their questions - it's their job.

approached like they were ignorant black folks....really dood. He couldn't sound any more ignorant making accusations like that. He sounds like a rock solid pastor, maybe he's affiliated with quixtar too...

When one has a preconceived notion of who they are, it is hard to believe that others wouldn't think the same. This is often a problem for those playing up a racial inequity.

What's sad is a lot of times you see these cases settled out of court and he'll actually profit from this...regardless of wrong doing. Welcome to the new America guys...it only gets better.

I see no settlement coming here... If I'm LU or TRBC - I fight this all the way if I have to. And then I counter sue for defamation and push state to move on perjury charges.

Good luck trying to do that.

Fact -

1. All charges against Howard have been dropped or dismissed

Knowing that, it appears that there simply was not enough evidence to convict him of anything, asking then more questions such as -

1. Why the use of spray and a choke hold (he was dismissed of resisting arrest afterall)
2. What did he do to his son to warrant such a reaction by LUPD?
3. Is it possible that maybe, just maybe the police overreacted in this situation considering they couldn't find anything to convict him on in the first place?

I hate lawsuits and hope he doesn't get a dime - but quite frankly I find it very "un Republican" and "un American" that a father not be able to discipline his son. Spare not the rod anyone?

Instead of being sprayed and forced to the ground he should be applauded for correcting the youth, Lord knows we need MORE fathers in the home doing likewise, especIally in minority families where so many have absent fathers.

Again I hate lawsuits, just looking at it from a different angle. I'm only a student but if police officers came up to me and tried to tell me how to discipline my son I wouldn't be very happy with them either, especially if I'm a pastor and for all we know, a good man.

Even if he was just giving him some tame discipline, if the cops misinterpret that and want to make sure the kid is ok, LET THEM TALK TO YOUR KID FOR A SECOND. This kind of incident always seems like it stems from some dude not liking that there a people with authority over him.

Yeah, I wasn't going to post on this thread but I can't ignore this.

He was pretty much in the most Republican "USA!" place in the world, so don't you think that if people around him thought it was worthy of the attention of the police that it was probably something more than regular discipline? I don't think you've quite thought this through.

Scorch -

Why then, were all charges dropped or dismissed? If it were that bad, surely enough evidence to convict right?

Again I think the guy is wrong for going the lawsuit route, but if I were in the same situation and a police officer interrupted me with my son I'd tell him to go take a hike as well.

dude, OJ cut his freaking wife's head off. The legal system isn't always so cut and dry. There could be 100 reasons why he wasn't convicted other than him being innocent of any wrong doing.

Hmm. That seems problematic.

Why do people get so fired up when cops talk to them? It never makes things better. I have gotten pulled over several times, been questioned by cops about other things and every time I showed them respect (even if it weren't shown towards me) and the situations seemed to work out just fine for me...including zero tickets, haha
