We just got word that the NCAA has asked PC to go through another year of evaluation thus pushing back the championship eligibility in the Big South to 2012. AD Reese was adamant that PC would still stay in Div. 1 until we get approval. No change in schedules for all sports.

Tough break for the juniors who have been waiting for the opportunity to compete for conference championships. Too bad we didn't have Reese in place when the move was initiated 4 years ago.

so much for RS half their MBB guys to make a run at a 'ship this season.

[facepalm]

I've always wondered how strong the committment to a DI program would be when the money kept going out and the losses kept coming in.

all sports, not just FB

esp at a solid academic institution like that. I'm sure there's real grumbling from some of the staff

I talked to the AD about this last week. Everything is in place and we're on track for Division I. Based on my conversations with both President Griffith and with Brian Reese, the administration is fully committed to Division I. The NCAA, and all its red tape, is asking for more precise language regarding the self study's section on athletes' amenities. Essentially, the NCAA wants more specificity in explaining why we don't have legions of academic tutors for our athletes and things like that. In transitioning to DI, PC's administration scheduled in a buffer so that if we hit a snag in the process, we would have time to fix things without our application being rejected outright. We're committed, even though football's performance hasn't been great. For example, construction on a brand new locker room for the football team will be started pretty much the day after this season ends. In other areas, we're doing all that we can to update facilities like baseball and softball, all with less than 10,000 living alumni and in the context of the worst economic situation since the Great Depression. The plan to transition to DI has been in the works since 1998, and we had just put everything in place to really get it going when the economy's bottom dropped out.
