Okay. Serious question here. How are your corners in coverage? Kerby Long (he of the secondary violation) was a legitimate deep threat against Morehead State -- 3 rec, 112 yds., 2 TDs. Here's the local TV coverage with highlights:

http://www.whsv.com/video/?autoStart=tr ... nerclipid=

But, without belittling too much, it was Morehead State. It was fairly easy to go over the top of the safety and past the corners for the deep route. I'm wondering if we'll be able to hit anything deep against LU. We obviously couldn't do it against Tech and only tried maybe once.

Flame Fans opinion?

Our corners are supposed to be pretty good although #28 Kajuan Lee has gotten beat deep a couple times this year already. They haven't really been tested yet though as everyone we've played has been a run oriented team. I'm sure we load up the box and try to force you guys to pass. This could be where the game's decided - our D secondary vs. your passing game.

We are supposedly deeper and faster than we've ever been in the secondary.

I'm about to go use my Palm on the toilet. Wait, that didn't sound right....

Okay, now that I've contributed to the hijack, another q:

How is Rocco using Mike Brown this year? I admittedly haven't followed a lot of the Liberty stats, just mostly scores. I would imagine he gets used a lot like we used Rodney Landers a couple of years ago at QB -lots of run, some pass to mix it up. What's the percentage of run to pass? Do you guys get scared when he passes like we got scared when RL passed?

Why would we be scared when he passes? He ranks in the top 10 in the country in passing yards and passing efficiency. Other than his 3 INTs against Ball State he has been a great passer everytime he’s played QB. He’s had 39 rushing attempts for 178 yds and 1 td, and 100 passing attempts for 881 yds and 8 tds.

I admit feeling queasy when he rolls out toward the sideline and then starts looking back across the middle. Those are throws he shouldn't be making. But I agree that his passing improvement this season has led to him not looking to tuck it & run like in the past two seasons. It seems like nearly all of his carries have been designed runs this year. Anytime he has the ball in his hands in openfield greatness can occur.

Okay. So the answer to that is no. A lot of times, run first QBs have a tendency to run as they throw because they don't know until the last minute whether they're passing or tucking and running. Thorpe had that problem last year in the beginning.

Landers was efficient when he was throwing a five yard out or the bubble screen. His passing efficiency was around 60some percent. BUT, the few times he threw crossing routes or deep balls, everybody held their breath. I will admit that his accuracy downfield was suspect. Dudzik is not as good of a runner as Landers but is about a million times better passer. It sounds like Brown is a better passer too.

Mike only pulls it down when he has to. He is very good in going through his reads. Perhaps that is his greatest flaw, he looks to pass too much. But I’m not going to complain much with that. He’s pretty accurate on any type of pass, short, mid-range and deep throws. Of course when you have 6-4 Chris Summers going deep it helps.

Mike can be his own best friend or worst enemy. He can lock in on a receiver, but doesn't usually try and force it, he'll just throw it away. He did it a few times against RMU and once against BSU that I can remember, but that turned into a pick (didn't get the ball out of bounds, throwing off back foot).

I agree with Sly that sometimes he'll look back across the field when he rolls out. Those are times I'd rather see him tuck it and go.

Thanks guys. What sort of offenses has LU faced? I know nothing about St. Fran or RMU and very little about Ball State? As a whole, what are the strengths and weaknesses of the defense?

For JMU, I'm not sure what exactly Morehead State ran, they tried a few different looks, but it was a pretty big mismatch (they're really not that good even for a non-scholly team). Tech tried to pound the ball at us and we did a good job stopping it. For some reason, they never really threw it down the field.

Before the Tech game, I would've said our D-line and LBs have trouble stopping the run, but I thought they did a good job of that. I still think they'll have some trouble, though. We also had uber-problems containing Tyrod Taylor and I'm afraid we might have some of those issues with Brown. Our secondary does look better than it has in awhile, so that's a positive.

I didn't have an opportunity to read the thread yesterday... I was getting engaged!!! But, non the less, ya'll got into it. I'm interested to see how we hold up to JMU's D... I watched the VT game and JMU was crushing their line!! What does rocco have to work on this week to get our boys ready for the blitz?

Congrats on getting engaged. That may be the first time I've really enjoyed paying attention to your posts. That's awesome. Seriously, congrats.
I'll make sure I ask Rocco about the blitzing tomorrow.

You know I'm listening to Coaches press con, and he's saying the team didn't contain the QB and such like they had practiced... Like they went over exactly what was going to happen and the team just didn't do it.... understanding the guys heads weren't there last week. I think our team did over look RMU, obviously i think we'll come back with vengeance this week and honestly i believe that JMU is going to overlook us. I don't care how many JMU fans or any FlameFans disagree with that statement, I don't think many FCS teams have the ability to have that passion and hunger for the next game after their big win...

But like I said JMU will be over looking us, its just going to matter whether or not we want it more than they do. I think we truly have the talent to beat JMU. It's just time to do it now.
