I think we've gone along for a long time with no one to check us. We've been able to say stupid things for years now because there's no opposing fans to say anything back. CCU had a couple and now that they're losing to Towson on a regular basis, they're gone. We can say whatever we want, from "LU would compete for a CAA title this year" to "This was our worst IAA loss" to "Let's play VT/Duke/UVA/etc... because we could beat them" and who knows what else, and there's no one to say "Uhhh, no, that's wrong." And any time an LU fan points out a fellow LU fan's stupid statement, they're a big bully who needs to be nice and let the fans be fans. Heaven forbid someone mention that Saint Rocco isn't coaching a good defense! That guy should be here forever, we'll be winning BCS games in no time if he stays!
I don't know if you guys have noticed, but there are a ton of reasonable JMU fans out there. Ones that are used to big games, and can handle the emotions of this situation. Saying things like "LU will want this game much, much more than we will, so we'll need our guys to show up when it matters". No LU fans says anything remotely this reasonable, ever! We call games a "potential trap game" because we feel we're light years ahead of every team we play, and then we feel like we're the worst team in the nation (see the score prediction thread) when we lose.
And I'm not exempt from this, but I have been able to take a step back for a while and enjoy sports without the constant banter here, and now that I'm back I see some of the reasons I left. SJ summed it up well, we go from being a national title contender with Mike Brown as player of the universe, to a team that won't be within 30 of JMU. Did it really change that much this weekend?
I'm saying we need to chill out with opposing coaches and fans. We need to be reasonable. We're a top 25 team with some talent and a good coach. We can win any game on our schedule. That doesn't mean we're worldbeaters, and the loss to RMU doesn't mean we suck. But we're going into our biggest regular season game this season and we're all wound up about it, and making fools of ourselves.
Carry on however you want this week. I have a good feeling well be very competitive in this game, because we're going to want this game more than JMU for a myriad of reasons. We're the Giants, they're the Patriots. There's no reason anyone should expect us to win from an outsiders perspective, but there's every reason for our guys to go out with nothing to lose and do their best to win. And I think we can. Saturday will show if we make that a reality.

In a non-Game Thread post since I've come back, show me an example of me going off the deep end?
I took time away because I couldn't handle all the emotional back and forth (from myself and everyone else). I'm back and I still see it, and wanted to point it out. I guess, like I said, that I'm just a big bully who should let everyone have their fun. But I am just as entitled to my opinion as Rooster and treyj and manson are to theirs, and my opinion is that a lot of absurd things have been said, and a lot of unreasonable criticism of other teams fans and coaches comments have been made.
I'm not the one pulling apart every JMU fan and getting my panties in a wad because they make fun of the Liberty Way and their coach said this was our Super Bowl. I'm not the one saying the RMU loss was our worst ever, or that we're going to lose by 40 points. I'm just saying for far too long we've gone without a real opposing fanbase, and now that we have one it's exposing our unreasonable comments even more than usual.
It was my privilege to serve you today. If you have any feedback, please direct it to my Assistant Director....
