New Screens in the Vines Center

My bad manger...
I went back and checked the email. I had also asked about the video cameras for the games. That's what he said no about. When I re-typed it... I added in "the screens will stay" and yes, you're right... that's not accurate.

Because in the 2nd email he obviously references new screens being brought in.

I just talked to him about other projects he's working on for me and he said that he'll be in the Vines very late tonight. They may be up before Convo tomorrow.

If someone is on campus they may be able to get some pictures this evening.

I talked to a friend of mine who stayed up all night in the Vines trying to get those screens up. The screens are messed up a little... only two were on at campus church this morning... he said so far a lot of time and money wasted, but when it's all said and done, it will be very nice. The new projectors are up and were projecting Johnnie Moore's face this morning. I couldn't tell much of a difference, but I'm not sure if it's because of the problems with the screens or not.

that's not good... well last time i checked on friday, they had the two old screens up and the other two were taken down. i watched them put together one of the screens and it was pretty big.

I echo what whmatthews said...I didn't notice much of a difference this morning either. Also, how are they going to arrange the banners now? They've had to take down a volleyball, women's basketball and High Point's so they wouldn't be blocking the projectors.

i heard that the screens that are up arent the new one's. i don't like how the projector doesn't fit the entire screen. i liked the old one's better.

they started to put the screens up today. those things are huge! it's more of a rectangle now. and the picture will take up the entire screen. they also changed the lights, and it looks brighter now. the last edition will be the spot for the scoreboard where you will see how many points each player on the court has and his fouls. it's going to look a little different in the vines next semester.

Guys... I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but I talked to my friend a few weeks ago... he does a ton of work for LU's A/V and is part of the team putting in the new equipment.

What he shared with me is this:
- The people we hired for the new screens have a great product but have never made anything as big as what LU needed.
- The material they initially used to build the frames was too flimsy.
- The company had to go back to the drawing board and come up with a better design to 1. get the quality and 2. get the strength.
- Apparently they are built in sections and the sections are connected together.
- With so many sections for such a large screen the structure was not strong and kept coming apart during setup.

It looks as though the company has worked through their issues and now have a better product.

The school is not skimping on quality or cost. The one thing I think the board (and students at large) forget is that we depend on contractors to do what they say they can/will do. For many contractors we are a HUGE project. To some companies we are one of the biggest if not the biggest job they will do in a year. Sometimes things dont' happen the way we want. As a result sometimes we end up with egg on our face but it's not all LU's fault. It's part of business.
