My son came home from campus church last night and said that Clayton King would be the Wednesday night campus church pastor for this first semester. The LU website validates that statement : https://www.liberty.edu/index.cfm?PID=18495&MID=21584.

I may be going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing Caner doesn't stick around much longer. Maybe he leaves at the end of the first semester, but I would say definitely by the end of the school year, he'll be moving on.

I think we have all been assuming that Clayton would come on staff at some point. Speaking Wednesday nights is the obvious entry point. Then again, this could be a situation where Clayton is testing the waters with a relatively short term commitment while Caner waits out his punishment.

Caner preached the other day, didn't he? Or maybe I misunderstood his tweet.

Very interesting. Clayton does an awesome job w/ Spiritual Emphasis Week but I'd be a little worried the novelty would wear off.

Of course, anything is better than Rob Jackson. Those Sunday nights were rough.

Clayton King was one of my favorites when I was a student....

He spoke at TRBC Sunday night.

I was there and was very challenged by him.

Clayton King was actually made an "honorary" campus pastor last year at Spiritual emphasis week

turns out now its more than honorary. it will be between Clayton, Ben Gutierrez and Johnnie Moore doing Wednesday nights from here on out.

on a complete side note Johnnie has really really improved as a preacher this year. no more meaningless rambling wasting everyone's time. he straight to the point and effective.

on a second side note, i really thought this thread would be about someone else. as its an awful lot of responsibility on Dwayne now being pastor to all the online and commuter students, around 60,000 people, and would be difficult for him to do by himself...

I don't mean this to sound harsh, but come on now. Dwayne is fine. Most online/commuter students go to church elsewhere and its really not as huge of a job as you make it sound. I am sure at times there are challenges, but nothing he can not handle.

Not to be mean, but I intentionally avoided services dwayne preached at and I know I wasn't the only one. That being said, Clayton King is the freaking man. First ran into him at a camp at Chowan College (NC) in summer of 1998. Awesome then. Awesome now.

There is def an entertainment factor with CK....that's for sure. He also brings out a lot of emotion which I'm also very cautious of. The emotion of a sermon will not last, only the content....so hopefully there is more content then emotion. (Not saying that CK doesnt have content, just in my personal experiences this is to be the case with evangelists). Keep in mind what evangelists live on for the most part....the love offerings and payment from the Church from ONE sermon, so you have to have the entertainment factor. Which is why IMO it's hard for evangelists to make it as a Pastor.

But I'm old school and grew up under Doc which while entertaining at times and said some of the greatest jokes from the pulpit was not about the thrills or "experience" it was strictly from the Word.

If he were the pastor at an actual church, I'd agree with you but the fact that he's at campus church makes me think it's not as big of a deal. Campus church is a year long once a week college version of vacation Bible school.

Isn't it 3 times a week, if you don't attend a different church?
