I've been reading all week about how our rush defense was terrible and that the only reason they didn't get a lot of yardage in the second half is because we forced them to pass because of our lead. I'd like to call complete BS on both of those.
Going into the game we had no clue what St. Francis would do offensively. They came out and surprised us and went for 65 yards on four rushes. After that, once we knew what they'd do, they averaged 2.3 yards on 33 rushing attempts.
To say that they gave up on the run and tried to pass when they could still get six yards a carry is completely and absolutely wrong. In the second half of the game, St. Francis rushed the ball 18 times and only attempted 9 passes.
We had one bad drive defensively on Saturday and now apparently our defense is terrible. We gave up 6 plays of ten yards or more - two on the first drive. We also had 34 plays where we gave up 3 yards or less. I love how that entire side of the ball is judged by 6 plays in a game where they were on the field for 54 plays. Apparently to Liberty fans, six bad plays negates 48 good to solid ones.
