Ball State fans do a pretty good job researching their opponents I've found. A large reason why you're getting a lot of respect is because of New Hampshire last year, who came in and knocked us off. However, we are loads better now than in that game.

I'd be curious to hear where you guys rate yourselves compared to New Hampshire.

It is tough to compare since we have few things in common. I would suggest it is similar to you guys comparing yourselves to a better than average Sunbelt team. We could hypothesize but it is tough to assess.

Despite the confidence from many on our board, I don't think anyone is taking this trip to Muncie lightly. We know we have to play well to win.

Ball State was 2-10 last year. They are not taking anything for granted.

Cardfan13, we appreciate your posts over here on FlameFans. It's difficult to compare ourselves to New Hampshire from the mighty CAA football conference. I don't think you have anything to worry about. The Cardinals can turn their focus to Purdue. :)

More Respect:
At Monday’s news conference, Parrish made a bold statement regarding Liberty’s quarterback.

“We’re going to face the best quarterback that we’re going to face all year,” Parrish said of Flames signal-caller Mike Brown. “He can do everything. If he doesn’t get hurt, he’ll lead (FCS) in throwing.”

The junior was the Big South Conference Offensive Player of the Year as a quarterback and receiver. This season he is solely playing quarterback.

“This kid can throw the ball,” Parrish said. “He’s very accurate and very smooth. He’s impressive to watch. He’s that good.”

That is high praise considering the Cardinals will face Iowa (Ricky Stanzi) and Purdue (Robert Marve) later this month. When questioned on his assessment, Parrish was a bit indignant.

“What I do for a living is coach those guys and watch them,” Parrish said. “I recruited the Iowa kid out of high school and I know him. Purdue, it’s to be determined. I saw (Marve) do a flip into the end zone, which cost his team field position. So I said, ‘Hooray for us.’”

During his career, Parrish has coached Michigan quarterbacks Brian Griese and Tom Brady, and he helped the Wolverines win the 1997 national championship. He later served as the quarterbacks coach for the Super Bowl-winning Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Parrish is considered somewhat of a QB guru so hearing this from him is indeed high praise. All of this know what he is saying is true, its just great to hear it from an outside source.

Don't think I saw this posted yet.

Ball State could have its hands full with playmaker Mike Brown, who switched from receiver to quarterback full time.
Brown, the reigning Big South Offensive Player of the Year, passed for 338 yards and four touchdowns in the opener. Three of his TD passes covered 40 yards or more. Granted, St. Francis (Pa.) is a Football Championship Subdivision program that went 2-9 last season.

I'm worried about our rush defense. We didn't play particularly well in that department against St. Francis and BSU is going to try to pound the ball all day long.

I think that's going to be a serious weakness with our 3-3-5 defense and I'm thinking we're going to be exposed a little there on Saturday. Really hoping I'm wrong.

There QB was inconsistent against SEMO and if he is again on Saturday, we'll start packing it up front like we did against St. Francis after the first score.

This is a good point, but I don't know if I'll go as far as to completely agree. I would like to emphasize that the rush D looked baaaaaad on Saturday. And our giant lead didn't give them a chance to show they could pull themselves together. So maybe they can and we just didn't get a chance to see. If they truly do stink that bad, I still don't see a rushing attack kill us as much as it should. Play callers seem to often get very stubborn and will try to pass even if they can run 6 yards at will. So while I watched the game saturday I thought this game had the potential to be a perfect storm of somebody running 250 against us, I think it's fairly likely something will prevent that from happening.

That's the only thing that stopped that kid from running 200 yards on us. They got behind so quick, they threw a lot of the time.

We're going to get a gut check there on Saturday. Ball State isn't going to give up on the run so easy. I didn't watch the Ball State game but I'd imagine based upon their statistics, and the number of touches they gave their RB's, that's going to be their strategy.

I think it's more a complete and total lack of faith in their passing game.

Great pics, Chris! Perhaps you should be doubling up as a photog more often.

Those pics makes the stadium look much nicer and larger than anything I have seen before. The shot down the luxury suite decks shows just how mammoth the project really is. And these also show that this extra month was really needed. Very nice job.

I'm also glad to hear injuries aren't a real issue heading to Muncie.

Something I posted on CS. 100% accurate? Maybe not. But I tried 8)
Although there may be a lot of hype and expectations on Ball States side, they beat a not so great SEMO team by only 17 points. Had SEMO had more depth and not gotten so worn down it may have been a closer ball game. Historically I don't think Liberty has been that great at stopping the run and Ball St knows it and will probably use that to their advantage, I'm hoping (and believe) Liberty will focus on stopping the run this week. SEMO had 3 fumbles and lost all 3 which obviously helped Ball St take the lead. Ball St. QB Kelly Page passed for only 85 yds with only Otis Brown getting more than 20 yds receiving. This team is obviously a running team with not much of a passing game at all so I think LU will be able to focus its efforts on the run. LU rushed for 147 yards and passed for 452 yds for 599 total offense yards. Mike Brown threw for 338 yds in just 2.5 quarters while Tyler Brennan threw for 114 the remainder of the game. Mike Brown was 17-22 with 4 TD's and 75 long, while Tyler Brennan was 9-10 with 2 TD's and 27 long. Summers, Hayes, and Kelly all gained more than 100 yds receiving (129, 110, and 115 respectively). LU is has a lot of depth in the running game with Barnett rushing for 56 on 8 attempts, Holloway for 49 on 7 attempts, and Davis for 39 on 10 attempts. Mike Brown at QB also gained 23 yds in rushing in 5 attempts. SEMO is better than St Francis but not by much. Ball St only had rough 10,000 fans at their game and Liberty is use to playing in front of much more than that so it will not be a factor in the game. All this said, I think LU has a great chance of beating Ball St. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so we'll see what happens on Saturday

Suggestion: How about these primary threads for game day have a poll in them to see who will each game? I like polls ;) I don't want to make a FOURTH thread for our game at Ball St.
