Sunday saw Bearcats head coach Butch Jones and his staff welcome some of the top prospects from the Midwest. Zach West of Lexington (Ky) Christian Academy first came upon the recruiting scene as a freshman starter on a state championship team. Now it’s his turn and college programs have taken notice.
With offers from Liberty and Troy, West is hearing from many programs across the South and Midwest. Ohio State, Alabama, Cincinnati and Wake Forest are just a few programs keeping tabs on the 6-foot-5, 295-pound offensive guard/tackle prospect. Sunday’s visit to Cincinnati gave the Bearcats a chance to impress.

“They showed us around on a tour and talked with us, but after that we didn’t really see or talk with them much. But the visit was very good. Cincinnati has great facilities and from the looks of things they have an outstanding academic program that is right there with many of the other programs I’ve looked at.”

West has already been to Junior Day events at Kentucky and Western Kentucky with another invite to Wisconsin. Penn State and Notre Dame has called his school asking for academic information and West has interest in both programs.

With many programs keeping a close tab on West, the future looks as if he’ll have a busy spring with invites to practices and spring games. But West has been busy getting ready for spring football and the track season.

“I’ve lost about 15 pounds since leaving the All-American Combine in early January. I’ve been getting in shape cutting back on some of the bigger foods and I’m now down to 290-pounds. Our spring football starts in about 2-3 weeks and I’ll be taking part in track doing the disc and shot.”

With the way things are going now look for West to start picking up offers in the coming weeks

Just an update, this kid is being flooded with offers (including from his hometown SEC school and some of the traditional national powerhouses) and he continues to mention us.

Lexington's West staying home, commits to UK

After a phone call Saturday, Lexington Christian's Zach West was ready to make a call of his own: he's going to Kentucky. He waited until a Wednesday news conference to announce it, though.
