I haven’t heard a final word on when they’d actually start construction on phase 2. I imagine there won’t be anything done after this season. I think the earliest they’d work on Phase 2 would be after the 2011 season and have it ready before the 2012 season started.

I know nothing but I would guess it depends on how the funding is going. After that it would depend on how well we fill up the stadium this fall. You don't want to grow faster than you can fill up the seats if possible.

Basically a conversation I had with some folks went something along the lines of... If the students show up in droves for each home game this year, and can be over capacity (105-110%) then that would be a pretty clear sign to JJ that the "mid-deck" on the student side needs to go up pronto. Also, new dorms are being put in place behind the Wingate Hotel, which will improve the on-campus enrollment. Those dorms are supposed to go up by the 2011 fall semester, which would make sense to help add onto the student side for the 2011 season as well. Now the big question is if we will have enough funding to do both. If so, don't be surprised to see a matching student side by next year.

from recent remarks by JJ in convo Wednesday and the leadership Q+A with him during prayer leader orientation funding will not be an issue. LU online makes bank.

In that case they need to break ground now. That way it might actually be ready for the first game next year.

I would be surprised. I don't think we'll be over capacity this year, other than probably the grand opening game and home coming.

I always figured the second deck (better?) on the student side would be either bigger or there would be long-term plans for a third deck, but I've never heard anything specific about that. Did I miss something other than wild speculation?

"Phases Two and Three will add a new 4,000-seat middeck for the east side of the stadium and 6,400 seats in a horseshoe-shape area surrounding the end zone in the south end of the stadium.

When all three phases are complete, the stadium will have undergone an estimated $22 million in improvements. The renovated facility will also ready the stadium for the future construction of upper desks on the west and east sides of the stadium that will bring the capacity to 60,000."
This is the line I missed. Thanks.
How in the world do they plan on an upper deck on the press box side? That doesn't seem even sort of possible.

Somewhere way back in this thread it was confirmed that the archways won't be put in until the phase 3 is finished.

I believe they determined that whole sections of the arches would have to be removed to bring in the big cranes and other heavy equipment for each phase (and of course put back), so they decided to wait til it was done.

+1 Yeah, 60K is the long term goal - 20-30 years...? Definitely no renderings yet.
I swear i saw something I cuz i remember thinking that they should just close in the top deck all the way around the horse shoe instead of just the 2 sides. hmmmm :?

you aren't crazy because I am pretty sure I saw it too. I just looked everywhere on the athletics site and found nothing. It was just up to show what to expect years down the road...but now I can't find it anywhere
