We have dabbled in camera talk on here before. But since I am in the market for gear I thought I'd ask for some opinions.

I am doing some video projects and I need to upgrade my old SD gear. I had been looking at traditional full HD video cameras and was leaning toward the JVC GY-HM100U because of its ability to record onto SD cards in .mov format. I used the higher end version of the camera at the church where I worked last year and loved the workflow of simply dropping the clips onto the Final Cut timeline in native code. I also have considered similar Sony options since that is basically all I used in my two decades in television. But the more I have talked to my production house/church guys the more I am leaning toward a more cost effective option ... the Canon EOS 7D.

I admit that as a video guy, the idea of carrying around a still camera that records video will take some adjustments on my part. And the audio situation is a nuisance on the 7D (or the more costly 5D Mark II) but there are clear workarounds in place (thank you Pluraleyes). But the picture quality on the 7D (and even moreso in the 5D Mark II) is outstanding and the price is very attractive.

Obviously some of you work on the video side of things but also love the stills. And some of you who are still-oriented photogs may have some thoughts on the 7D or other options as well. What's your take?

I just use the ones the dept put in all the gloveboxes. They are silver.

we hook them up to a cord and then upload the photos to our printer. The printer is white.

then we take them to court with us.

hope that helps.

That's the type of counsel that many would pay dearly to obtain.

:clapping

And not that anybody cares, but I just bought the 7D.

I was driving yesterday and listening to a Leo Laporte podcast, and a caller brought up a similar question. Leo said the 7D is fantastic for both video and still shots. I personally have no clue about the video portion...only shoot pics.
