okay...has anyone else had a popup of Meredith Andrews CD cover in the last month. I was looking up lyrics one day and she popped up. Could my friendship with her on facebook and her one of my music likes have anything to do with it? Probably not, Im just saying it was kinda crazy to me if that is what companies are doing with facebook. If they are, it is totally an invasion of privacy.

How so? You post in a semi-public forum that you prefer a particular artist, and that information is matched with your IP. Equipped with that knowledge, a company (in this case, metrolyrics.com) would be foolhardy not to use it.

Its only private if you keep it private. If you make certain information public, an invasion is no longer required by the company.

Point blank: if you post something ANYWHERE on the Net, and it shows up elsewhere, you have only yourself to blame. So, stop whining!

Well, facebook selling information or giving information from a private page to a third party is considered a violation of the user-privacy law...the state of california seems to think so. Also, facebook has ceased giving away the personal information as of June 4th, 2010.

That argument is like saying that, in lieu of the state of California's laws against murder, I'm going to walk alone in Compton at 2am. Or, because a state law exists giving me the right-of-way in a crosswalk, I'm going to blindly step into the street, ignoring the oncoming car - he's supposed to stop, right?! Then, I'm going to be upset when I'm shot or hit by the car, when employing a little COMMON SENSE would have helped me avoid the entire situation!

By the way, if the definition of my not having a clue is a disagreement w/ a law of the state of California, then I'm often out of the loop.

But back to the point, and I'm serious about this - if you are so concerned about others knowing your personal information, why give it to a third party? Its the same as grocery stores offering better prices in return for your information, then selling that information. And in that case, I don't fault them for it! The junk mail (or, in your case, pop-ups) is a small price to pay.

once again...my personal rights ensure me that my information will not be given to a third party.

Youre argument reminds me of the BS we heard from the republicans when they passed the Patriot Act. "If you've have nothing to hide, then you shouldn't have a problem with the government spying on you." To you it doesn't matter what the law says. No respect for our own laws in the name of corpratism.

Sounds okay to me. I don't have anything to hide. And if we are safer because of the spying, and I just so happen to be searched along with all others, so be it. I certainly didn't mind the bag search at the airport last week.

Claiming a right to privacy, you were probably the kid who was upset when your parents periodically systematically went through your dresser drawers searching for contraband.

But if I was a dude and a fan of a little girly pop-Christian singer, and the world was told, I'd be PO'ed, too. So, I guess I understand.

Google loses ChromeOS leader to Facebook

The head of the Chrome OS announces his departure in a Tweet.

Matthew Papakipos today tweeted, "Now that Chrome OS & WebGL are in good shape, it's time for something new. I'm going to work @ Facebook! Love the product and team. Woot!", thus ending his just over three years at Google where he had a pretty impressive array of responsibilities. According to his LinkedIn profile (which hasn't been upgraded yet with the news), he:

Started and managed the Chrome OS project.
Manage Chrome user interface team.
Managed Chrome HTML5 apis.
Started and manage GPU-accelerated 3d APIs for Chrome: O3D, WebGL, etc.
Started the NativeClient project: Native C++ code for web apps.

Maybe that will draw the Scorcherer out for a possible comment.

I am really surprised you are okay with people going through your things...I dont need protection from the patriot act. I have nothing to hide, but my rights are preserved under the fourth amendment. My secrets and my communications are mine, not the governments. Besides, it will be used to harm rather than help americans. How can you really trust the govt?? Also, I do have a problem being searched at the airport...I do not look like Achmed...I do not resemble those two flew the planes into the WTC. We get searched bc white people are too scared to racially profile Muslims. Their feelings arent protected under the constitution. They resemble (cause) those who did fly the planes into WTC (effect, they should be searched). As carlos mencia stated..."I would give a box cutter to Tyrone and if he (the muslim) gets ALAHALAHALAH on that plane, stab that mother#####r!"

Also, please dont presume bc I value privacy that I want to violate the privacy of others. I do beleive in principles.

i have no problem telling people my taste in music....my favorite artist is trevor hall. he smokes lots of pot on stage and is some what of a hippy white reggae singer. no problem posting it, i just do not want flamesfan telling his record company to send me info on getting any of his albums.

So you're telling people from some other ethnicity that it's ok to be singled out for searches at the airport because "their feelings aren't protected under the constitution." Yet you yourself don't want to be searched because you don't look Middle Eastern? I think it's fair to say that You're feelings aren't protected under the constitution as well so it's a moot point to complain about it. The reason for the searches covering every race is because those of Middle Eastern descent aren't the only ones that commit heinous crimes. You do realize that those who wish harm to America come from anywhere on Earth, right? Africa, Asia, Europe... It's completely arrogant and asinine to just look at a person at an airport and deem them "safe" based on their looks and skin color.

like i said...i dont resemble those who flew planes into the WTC. I dont fit the profile of a terrorist. its BS that we are all checked at airports. My feelings arent protected youre right. I am just "real" about how i feel about and dont have a problem saying it.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,96994,00.html

that story should scare you because someone was able to get on a plane undetected. Now, if this guy can do it, why not Achmed? We are no more safe on a plane before all the medal detectors and checked bags arrived. It is a facade that were all checked bc people can still get on a plane undetected. It's more of the BS propaganda were fed in the US to make us feel better about ourselves.

OK, it would appear this discussion has stepped over the line into the personal. Let's try to stay on topic ... which originally had to do with exiting Facebook but has evolved into privacy rights on the web. The new discussion is cool as long as we don't start attacking each other.
