We've discussed the World Cup some, but who does everyone think will actually win it? Why do you think they will? Who will they beat?

(I put the top nine teams in the world as options. If you think someone 10 or higher will win, click other and say who it is.)

Spain. Boy, they're deep, and have a lot of offensive weapons.

And the US doesn't make it past the round of 16. Too many injuries are forcing reliance upon unproven commodities.

I picked Spain as well, although I'm not sure who they're beating yet. I'm thinking it could be Portugal or Holland but I don't really know.

As for the US, I'll be thrilled if we make it to the round of 16 and get beat. If we had Davies and our defense was halfway healthy I think we could make the quarterfinals but without those two, I don't think we do that.

I picked Spain, but I half-expect for Brazil to win it this year. Interesting fact: Starting with the 1950 World Cup, The Championship game has had either Brazil or Germany (or both) make it 13 out 15 times. That's ridiculous.

I want the USA to do very well. However if we are being realistic i'd have to go with spain as well. Last world cup I enjoyed watching them the most. they play more beautifully than the Brazilians and thats hard to do.

I am not going to pretend that I have some amazing insight. I just enjoy watching national teams play infinitely more than Euro club soccer.

I'm predicting Portugal takes down Italia in the final.

Not anymore. Brazil is moving away from the "play beautifully" attitude and are playing more defensive. That's the main reason why Ronaldinho isn't on the team this year.

I was wondering about that. i haven't seen them in any friendly's lately so i don't know how much they've changed in 4 years. i just remember how fluid spain was on offense. it was so much fun to watch.

Yeah, I'm going to be the ignorant American homer:

U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A.

And yes, I know there's practically no chance of it happening.

I have to go with the country of my birth...Spain (though I'd like to see the US win it, I just can't see it happening). I have Spain knocking off Portugal in a border battle in the finals. But Spain has always found ways to get knocked out early in the World Cup, so I'm a little apprehensive, but they seem to be too good this time around to get sent home too early...and hopefully the Euro Cup win has taken that big-tournament monkey off their back.

I think this year has huge potential for us to see something different. Italy, France, Portugal are all down this year, and injuries are piling up. I saw some guy who ranked the teams in the Cup, and he put England 4th. I think that's a little ridiculous, but it shows you that the depth just isn't there this year. The door is open for someone sneaky like Denmark, Serbia, Uruguay, or Chile to do some damage.

I don't know if it can happen (given the structure of the tournament), but I would love to see Argentina and Holland in the finals. For me, they are the most enjoyable teams to watch, and aside from Spain, are the deepest.

This would make the event so entertaining. What a win could do for any one of those countries...WOW!

I have Spain defeating Brazil in the final. Spain actually plays more of a traditional Brazilian style than Brazil does now.

If Messi gets hot, Argentina could go on a deep run similar to the way they did in 1986 when Maradona carried them all the way. Of course Maradona is the coach now and is completely crazy so he could sabotage the whole thing from the beginning.

I was listening to Scott Van Pelt one day and he actually talked about that...would Maradona be willing to go on that big of an ego trip to intentionally load the Argentine roster and cause them to do so poorly that Messi doesnt become the greatest Argentine soccer player of all time, supplanting him?
