Lee Guetterman (left) and Theresa Bream (right) are two of the five inductees in the Liberty Athletics 2010 Hall of Fame Class.

May 11, 2010
Lynchburg, Va.

The Liberty University Athletics Department will be inducting its second Hall of Fame class as part of Hall of Fame weekend when Liberty squares off against Savannah State on Oct. 2, 2010, inside a newly renovated Williams Stadium.

The five-member class will include Theresa Bream (women’s basketball/volleyball), Gina Gibson (women’s track and field), Lee Guetterman (baseball), Chip Smith (football) and Al Worthington (baseball coach and athletics director).

The 2010 induction class will bring the total number of Liberty Athletics Hall of Fame members to a dozen, as seven made up the inaugural class last year.

Lee & Theresa were no brainers. And Al is the man primarily responsible for building the foundation for LU athletics as we know it today. And he certainly used the baseball team to put us on the map. Chip & Gina were tips of the hat to LBC days.

I remember Theresa from volleyball while I was on campus. She moved over to hoops after I graduated. She was a phenomenal athlete. I remember being a little surprised she wasn't inducted with her brother last year. But she certainly had a huge impact on womens athletics at LU.

Eric had his number retired. So I believe he can probably wait another year or two so that they can spread out the bigger names.

Chip Smith is still doing great things....along with being looked at as one of the top NFL Prospect and current player trainers I believe he is THE trainer or something like that for the Chinese athletes training for the Olympics.

Looks like she would meet the 5 year criteria now, but I'm thinking they want to get the no-brainers from the early years in first. Plenty of time for Katie.

Theresa also played softball. She didn't just play 3 sports, she starred in all 3. I doubt if we will ever see that again.

Starting a HOF after 36 years of athletic history and then sticking to a limit of 5 inductees per year makes for some ridiculously tough choices. I think the comittee has done a great job so far.

Didn't Theresa tryout (and almost make) the Olympic hand ball team one year?
Heather Sagan should be the first women's T&F inductee.
Another English major! Study

Yep. Team handball. She had never played the game before she tried out. I think she was one of a group of players who practiced with the squad right up til the Olympics, but didn't compete.
