The study is finally out: https://www.liberty.edu/index.cfm?PID=18495&MID=17970
Between 2001 and 2010, university employment increased by 3,023 jobs, or 351 percent.
Between 1992 and 2009, the university’s fall enrollment increased from 8,500 to 46,949, an increase of 38,449 students, or 452 percent*.
Local taxes paid by the university itself, university tenants, employees, students and visitors contributed approximately $8.4 million in tax revenue to the region in 2009; LU generated approximately $5.4 million in tax revenue for the city of Lynchburg.
In 2009, out-of-town visitors to Liberty were responsible for one out of every nine hotel nights spent in the Lynchburg area, resulting in approximately $5.6 million in hotel revenue.
Liberty students and employees provide approximately $4.9 million worth of volunteer service hours in the region each year.
The LaHaye Ice Center attracts more than 100,000 people each year, and the Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre has received national attention as North America’s only Snowflex synthetic ski slope since opening in August.
Liberty is meeting 100 percent of the regional demand for graduates in the fields of nursing, business/commerce, accounting, business administration and management, among others.
Thoughts?

Liberty University: The difference between Lynchburg and Danville.

100k per year on the Ice Center is pretty impressive. I can't wait for a couple of years until we can get some numbers on the Ski slope. I'm very curious to see how that's doing.

Maybe the haters on the News & Advance article will stop whining about LU now. Ok hopeful thinking.

This one is the most impressive to me:
Liberty is meeting 100 percent of the regional demand for graduates in the fields of nursing, business/commerce, accounting, business administration and management, among others.
Everytime you go to the Dr. or Hospital most of the nurses are LU grads. Ask them. There is no doubt that Lynchburg is an economic disaster without LU. I love Luconn's statement for the new city slogan.

That should make BrysOn and JDUB feel better. I wonder what the percentage is for seminary graduates, because Super will soon be looking for work.

I'm already looking. I'm out of here in five weeks whether I've got something lined up or not.

So basically that means that LU, LC, Randolph, Sweet Briar, and CVCC are saturating the market with graduates in those fields.
Liberty students and employees provide approximately $4.9 million worth of volunteer service hours in the region each year.
How did they calculate the $4.9 million figure? How many actual hours were there and how did they determine what type of wage to place on the service hours?

All that 100% figure means is that we graduate enough students to fill the demand. Most of our grads don't choose to stay here, although a percentage each year do (like me.............. over 30 years ago.)

How did they come up with any of these figures? It doesn't say. But I would guess most of them are minimum wage positions if they were paid. what is it, 12,000 students? Times 20 hours (I think). times 2 semesters times $7.25 equals $3.48 million. So there's probably something else in there but that's pretty close.

They also asked the faculty how many hours we volunteered, and I think there is around 300-400 of us.

We have some strong points (not many) but overall […]
