If I were Jarrod's dad I would be like, if you're going to UK, you're gonna get a job and pay for it yourself.

Unless the boosters already got that worked out

Polson sounded emotionally swept away by UK's interest.

"I was ecstatic," he said. "Just playing with them in general is pretty awesome. It's a crazy feeling."

Unlike Justice, Polson sounded willing to accept any terms from the UK coaches. "I don't think I can turn down being a walk-on or a scholarship player," he said.

I would say that is true except that almost all players looking at Cedarville are not D1 calibre ballers. It certainly looks like this kid could be an exception. As far as all of the non-basketball aspects are concerned, I would think if he likes Cedarville he would love LU.

Cedarville is a transitional NCAA DII school right now so they are starting to chase higher caliber players than in their NAIA past. But you are correct that typically we aren't going after similar talent levels.

This kid really appears to have raised his stock tremendously his senior season.

Polson’s showing as a senior has earned him offers from Georgetown College, several Division II and NAIA schools. But he’s also been offered a scholarship from Liberty University.
It sounds like LU is the only DI school to offer him a scholarship, and according to Lang's article in today's paper, we have exactly ONE scholarship left. Play Basketball

Does anyone know what the status is of a walkon who transfers to another school where he has a scholarship? Does he still have to sit out a year under the NCAA transfer rule? Just thinking about what this kid's options would be if he went to UK and it didn't work out.

oh well. He'll get to meet lots of interesting people. Year after year. Hopefully the minutes he logs stay on record.

I actually feel relieved for the kid. Sounds like he is a lifelong Wilcat fan. I was having trouble seeing where he would see significant minutes with the guards we already have and I would hate for him to be sitting on our bench kicking himself when he could have been sitting on the front row at Rupp.

Good luck, Jarrod.

It's easy to understand that decision. It was not a guarantee that he would have seen considerable time at LU. For a player that was not on the radar of any major programs one year ago, it has to be exciting to be a part of your home-state school.

I knew a player for the 1994 Razorback team that won the national championship (John Engskov). John grew up in a little town near Fayetteville, AR and was a Razorback fan his whole life. He had opportunities to play at other schools with a scholarship, but chose to sit at the end of the bench as a walk-on. He did not regret that decision.

It's not often you have a kid call Coach Cal to accept an invitation once he hangs up with LU

After riding the pine for a year, maybe he will change his mind.

You gotta think that this is a good sign for us when it literally comes down to us and one of the elite programs in the country for a recruit.

guys, I know we want to feel good but it wasn't Liberty vs Kentucky. It was Liberty + $100,000 vs Kentucky with UK edging us out.

Putting myself in his place, I have to think a major factor was the fact that with Jesse entrenched at PG at LU it would have probably been at least 2 years before he started anyway, and maybe never. It then becomes largely a financial decision, and none of us know what his situation is as far as personal and family resources, other available non basketball scholarships, grants and other financial aid are concerned. It may not have been as expensive a choice as it initially appears. If he is going to spend considerable time on the bench either way, I certainly can't fault him with living out a dream of being a part of the UK program and being close to home.
