you're not joking. I just saw it tweeted. Glenn Beck the famous Mormon is Liberty University's graduation speaker.

He was a great entertainer about 2 years ago. He has since gone off the deep end, and cries way too much.

I kinda have the same thoughts, but I don't doubt that he can give an outstanding speech. I think most people will be happy with it, if they can get past their feelings toward him before the address.

Still, people used to complain when they'd get some no-name pastor or something. Now it's gone to the other extreme and people are still complaining.

What a let down. Was this the original pick or did somebody back out? Why did they wait so long to make any kind of announcement if the speaker was only Glen Beck? Supposedly they are having a special convocation the 1st week of May to officially announce the graduation speaker and if it’s only Glen freakin Beck this was a dumb move. Ben Stein last year was a better choice and they announced that way in advance.

Cool seeing Paige Patterson coming back.

As for Beck, I doubt theology comes up in what is generally a cheerleading session for the future. That seems right in his wheelhouse.

I would suspect 2011 brings a return to a major politician courting the Religious Right in advance of the 2012 elections.

If that was the case I'm glad we got GB.

I still can't understand what Sarah ever accomplished to suddenly become the face of the GOP :dontgetit

I know a few of you think weekend update is the real news, but I refuse to believe you see that clueless. She was an elected governor who did a pretty good job running her state and was a vice presidential nominee. I guess if you consider that "nothing", you're spot on.

You mean…
Elected governor who quit to make more money (nothing wrong with making money but if that’s why your in politics you just lost my respect) and the vice-presidential nominee who was chosen solely because McCain knew he had no chance with any qualified nomine so he tried the long shot of adding an attractive women to the ticket.

So while she has done “things” she hasn’t done anything to garner the respect and place she has been given at or near the front of the Republican Party. She’s just another standard politician, and as a Republican I find it irritating that we let someone like this use the party for her gain. She can't even give a speach without using notes written on her hand

My complaint isn’t that they chose Glen Beck, but that they waited so long and tried to make it a big deal and then when they finally announced it was Glen Beck it was a let down to me.

Well 09, Im sorry that the administration didnt wait for your personal go ahead on the graduation speaker. you cant make everybody absolutely happy 100% of the time. There are some who are looking forward to hearing from Glen Beck, and some who arent...c'est la vie. Id be worried if the administration felt like they couldnt make a decision unless everybody (students, faculty, etc.) was happy about it.

They don't need to make everybody happy, just me

I don't think I explained myself clearly enough...I was just expecting a bigger name then Glen Beck after postponing the announcement for so long. I'm sure Beck will do fine and he will give a good speach. I just thought it would be a bigger name… like a Cheney, McCain, McDonnell, or Gingrich

another political move by LU. SMH

I don't hate Glenn Beck, but if it was my graduation, I wouldn't want to listen some political head (esp. someone who isnt christian). Me, I would've loved to hear from a big name christian in hollywood/pro. like; Drew Brees, Kurt Warner, Joe Gibbs, David Robinson, Tony Dungy, Tyler Perry, or Denzel Washington they all have a huge impact on their churches, communities, and their jobs. I think if it was someone like that, alot of people will like, instead of divide people like this move Image

You can diminish her life and the things she's done all you want, but she was a very successful and popular conservative governor and that is how she got to the point she is at right now. I don't care if you don't like her. But you asked a dumb question.

yes...i base all my political views on weekend update....

I just view her the same way I view obama...a politician who claims they are "different" but have done little prove they are "different"...and think people that like her are just like the people who like obama...they are just easily swayed by their words....

I have no trust in any politicians to be honest and its hard for me to take anybody at their word and really truly put my support behind anybody...

As far as Glen Beck goes. Who cares?? He isn't going to get overly political..he will say they typical graduation type of speech...

man this post is so negative...I am just so over politicians as a whole...

I was reading over the release on the LU website and it seems that there is something that everyone seems to have glossed over (including I guess the News and Advance) in all the hubbub about Mr Beck...
Joining Beck as a speaker will be Dr. Paige Patterson, the current president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Patterson will also be the keynote speaker at Baccalaureate Service on May 14.
So it looks to me like we're gonna have two speakers at commencement, with Glenn Beck being the most well known, while Dr Patterson is also going to be addressing the baccalaureate service.
