Interesting discussion about the past but I am really interested about the future. A couple of good signings in the spring period and we can start talking about THIS great signing class. Come on Coach. I am tired of the ifs... I am counting on you!

Yeah, but that's all we've had the past 6 seasons.

If BJ had stayed, he would have been done now.

When you recruit Freshmen you are going to have more leave simply because they can. They are young and have a redshirt/transfer year to burn, so they have options. Guys that transfer in with a year or 2 of eligibility don't. If they get here and it doesn't work out, they're pretty much stuck. I have confidence that this staff will learn from each experience and figure out how to recruit for retention at LU so the turnover will slow down, but it will ALWAYS be there.

There's nothing wrong with wishing someone the best in their future endeavors. But poor performance is poor performance, and should not be glossed over with a whole bunch of nostalgic :BS and excuses regarding untapped potential, just to feel better about the situation. Did Liberty Basketball mishandle Stephene? Possibly. Should we be apologists for poor performance? Absolutely not. Maybe the talent is really there, or maybe it never was. Maybe we so desperately wanted it to be there that we blinded ourselves to the truth and ignored reality. The truth hurts, but it's the only thing that will set you free. And the truth is, Layer just gained an extra scholarship a year before he was supposed to! This is a good thing people! We don't need to act dismayed, sad, or disappointed about it. We should be happy! Out with TurnoverTownJohnny, in with whoever Layer wants for HIS system.

Good luck Johnny, hope you find calmer waters, clearer skies, and a program that loves to fast-break all the time.

yeah but no need to bust on the kid. He played for Liberty and tried his best. It didn't work out. I appreciate the effort.

I agree there were moments where stephene showed flashes of brilliance especially with his lightening quick first step. I dont think its right to celebrate his leaving he was a good player who tried very hard to work his way into a system he just didn't fit into.

ive talked with him a little bit and he said he is still considering it and he has to do whats best for him. Bill is really a class act guy so he will be missed, but i'll support him wherever he decides to go

I heard they are all going to step down a level so they can get more playing time - maybe UNCA?

I'd take Konan in a New York minute.

The others probably wouldn't get time at Asheville either. We are fairly set in the backcourt.

(I know you weren't being serious. Just sayin'.)

Heck - I like Konan too... Still not sure why he is leaving. Way to take it though - even though I was trying to create some discussions on this lethargic board. On truthful note - I would take some UNCA players...

we are losing kevin davis (back up PG, he was a soph. wasn't getting a lot of PT), Travis Smith (freshman who started at PG, no clue why he is leaving) and chase holmes hasn't decided yet if he is leaving but its basically a done deal. We are bringing in 2 signees, and a transfer from wisconsin. The transfer was a freshman last year (walk on) who had a shot at earning a scholarship but had some disciplinary problems with theft in a dorm.

Wow.....losing Holmes would really be a killer.

Latest from G-W is three of what is left on our roster after losing 7 seniors were considering leaving, but Holtmann is trying to convince them to stay....which three have not been confirmed....sure hope Henley is not one of the three.

According to Jeff Goodman's transfer list:

Stefon Johnson and Thomas Staton are listed as players that are transferring out of GWU.

Sounds like he should have been a Highlander.

Someone is still bitter Abele chose Radford over UNCA.

...shouldn't all these types of rim shots be going to Winthrop anyway? There the ones who just had their starting line up audition for the cover of High Times.

Well, I hate it, but good luck to them. Scruggs really railroaded both of them last season. Holtmann has his work cut out for him for sure.

(gwebb) looks like you're about to pick up a commitment from Antiono Hosley (teammate of all-american Terrance Jones)
