This is one of my favorite sporting events. I'm pulling for Phil to put on the Green Jacket as champion again on Sunday.

I have a feeling we'll have a new champion. While Tiger seems to flourish when he has every excuse not to excel, he seems to rise to the occasion. But the opportunity is ripe for a new champion this week. I really liked the grit I saw from Kim here in Houston over the past weekend.

Yes, but will being in Tigers group help or hurt Kim?

That's KJ Choi ... who happens to live here in Houston not from my house. I wouldn't rule out KJ either.

I'm not able to answer the poll. It is returning the following error "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again." I've tried multiple times. Any suggestions?

Im having issues with the poll as well but I think really Tiger having taken five months off from the game isnt going to just flip a switch and go out and drop four straight rounds in the mid 60s and win the tournament. This is a chance for a new face to potentially come into the fore. Marino was right up near the top when I headed off to class this morning

I would be surprised if anyone shoots in the mid 60's for all 4 rounds. That happens in regular tour events, but not at the Masters.

Tom Watson is atop the leaderboard after posting a 67 for a score of -5. My first reaction would be to dismiss his chances because of his age, but I watched the British Open last year. The course will likely become more difficult over the next few days as the greens get faster and the pin placements become more difficult.

Won't happen at Augusta (at least not near the course). Remember Martha Burk?

Nothing to do with predicting the winner, I am just going for shameless self-promotion here.

I got a free ticket to the practice round at Augusta on Tuesday. It was unreal. That place is absolutely amazing. Honestly, I would have paid money to just walk the course alone. If you ever have a chance to go, jump at it...even if you hate golf.

The "seniors" played well today. Freddie is alone in first place after day one (-6) and Tom Watson is T-2 (-5) with Mickelson, Choi, Westwood and Wang. It was a great opening day for the 50+ crowd. Sandy Lyle and Bernhard Langer also played very well. It could be an interesting story line if any of these players remain in contention on Sunday. Jack Nicklaus was the oldest to win the Masters when he won in 1986 at age 46.

I remember watching that '86 victory as a student on campus on the crappy TV by the laundromat in in the dorm in the middle of the circle. Jack came out of nowhere to put golf back in the headlines at a time when frankly tennis was a bigger deal (tough to imagine today).

I just don't see Fred hanging onto the lead into the weekend. Everybody loves Fred but his health makes this unlikely.

Fred Couples is possibly one of the coolest men to walk the planet. You gotta root for him.

Former LU BB player Jay Boykin is from South Augusta and worked for the country club in some capacity back in the day. It might have been just an internship.

I'm so glad Phil won. Did anyone else catch the clashing plot lines of golf's greatest players? Phil had his whole family there to greet him after the win. Meanwhile, Tiger was completely alone and would have been even if he got a spiffy new jacket (his wife, kids, and even his mom didn't travel to Augusta). I'll take "Karma" for $400, Alex.

Phils shot from the pine needles was sick...I thought for sure we were going to see an old school Philly blow up and he lose but sure enough it was perfect and sealed the deal.

I'll admit I was pulling for Kim ... I suspect he'll don a green jacket in the not too distant future. At least for now, the intimidation factor for Tiger has waned. I was proud of the way KJ battled on the front nine before it slipped away playing alongside Tiger.

Sly, deep (probably really deep) in your subconscious, you like all things Sooner.

We were pulling for Phil all weekend. What a great win. He is a short game genius. His round yesterday could have been disaster for a number of tour players after the three hook drives on the back nine. He made the two pars and birdie appear routine. It was only 6 short years ago, that he had tremendous media pressure at every major questioning if he would ever win a major. No other golfer has undergone the same scrutiny prior to or since that time.

If you have never been to the Masters, you should go sometime. It is one of the best sporting events in the world. Once you have been there, you will have a new appreciation as you watch on TV. It is difficult to comprehend the beauty and difficulty on TV. There is not a blade of grass or azalea out of place. It is amazing what you can do when you don't have a budget.

It would have to be really, really deep ... but I like Anthony Kim's game a great deal.

I'll spot you your Sooner and show you a Longhorn ... Tom Kite. He wore the same mantle for a long, long time despite being #1 player in world.
