and you can count me as one who would hug you like someone who's closer than a brother because you think that even if you meant it in jest because that is not what I would classify as funny

He's not the only one uptight in this thread (however he did cross the line saying he'd inflict physical contact because of what 14 thought)

What Huggie did was not wrong, it was out of emotion....odd, cant say I've ever seen it before...but whatever...however comparing it to the hugs Coach K gives while crying isnt quite the same....when I saw Huggie do that it felt a little creepy.

I've already got some of the Carolina faithful complaining about the refs in my Facebook News Feed.

It sure doesn't take long.

Kind of strange how little commentary we had on the championship game here. The big argument on Mike & Mike this morning is about K's decision to miss the last FT when a make would have assured at least OT. I say it was the right move. With no time outs, that half-court prayer was the best shot Butler could have hoped for after rebounding the miss, and there was at least as good a chance there would have been a scramble for the rebound and they get no shot at all. The fact that he was able to hit the backboard and rim is irrelevant. It's not horseshoes or hand grenades, and that shot goes in maybe 1 time in 20. Those are good odds.

I disagree. I think you have to make that shot. The odds of them getting the rebound, and making the shot aren't much worse than making the shot from an inbounds.

I would be inclined to agree with you if Butler had a time out. As it was, the way things played out for Butler was almost a best case scenario, with the player they wanted to take the final shot getting the rebound cleanly. Even so, all he got was a hail Mary. If they make the FT, Butler has an opportunity to inbound to someone closer to the front court and still have 3 seconds to either dribble drive or make another pass and get a more makeable shot. It was a bit of a crap shoot of course because of the possibility of losing in regulation, but if I'm K I'm saying "if they can make that kind of shot at the buzzer, they deserve to win."

I would also add that K has some direct knowledge about what it is possible to do on a length of the court inbounds play with even less than 3 seconds left.

Does Curry get a championship ring?

He is a scholarship player and he practiced with the team all year, so you can certainly argue he made a contribution. I'm almost sure he can get a ring, and he may not even need to pay (not that I think that would be an issue).

He's ineligible this year. He had to pay his own way to every away game he went to, including the Final Four. A ring would be an improper benefit.

He gets a ring.

They are also giving a ring to Eliot Williams who transferred to Memphis because his mother's very serious illness to be closer to home.

I wanted to make sure what I thought was right so I did some checking:
16.1.4.2 Awards for Winning Conference and National Championships.

Awards for winning an individual or team conference or national championship may be presented each year, limited in value and number as specified in Figure 16-2. Awards for winning a conference or national championship in a team sport may be provided only to student-athletes who were eligible to participate in the championship event. The total value of any single award received for a national championship may not exceed $415. The total value of any single award received for a conference championship may not to exceed $325, and each permissible awarding agency is subject to a separate $325 limit per award. Each permissible awarding agency may provide only a single award for each championship to each student-athlete. Separate awards may be presented to both the regular-season conference champion and the postseason conference champion (with a separate $325 limitation), but if the same institution wins both the regular-season and postseason conference championship, the combined value of both awards shall not exceed $325. (Revised: 4/25/02 effective 8/1/02)

It's possible that Elliot Williams could get one and not Curry. He was granted an exemption from the transfer rule because of his circumstances, and actually led Memphis in scoring this year. How good would Duke have been if he could have stayed?

Those are people they chose to redshirt due to injury or guys that needed time to develop. They were eligible to play but the school chose not to play them. Seth was not eligible.

I know Seth had uniform issues at LU, but can't Coach K find a T-shirt for Seth that doesn't look like a dress?

In an interview on M&M yesterday K basically said he decided to miss the free throw because he thought they would probably lose if it went to OT. The momentum was going Butler's way, the crowd was absolutely behind Butler and he had some guys in foul trouble. He decided to roll the dice and win or lose in regulation, and missing the free throw maximized the odds of winning in regulation. I give him credit for his honesty. A lot of coaches would not admit to that.
