With basketball season behind us, I thought I'd go ahead and get this started to see what the interest is. I see 3 road games as attractive options:

Sept. 11 vs. Ball State

Sept. 25 vs. JMU

Nov. 13 vs. Coastal

VMI is too close IMHO, and I just don't see there being much interest in a trip to Robert Morris or Presby. There is no law saying we can't do more than one if there is enough interest.

I'd say JMU is actually too close for a bus trip: only 2 hours away, Harrisonburg is the kind of football roadtrip you take with a couple of buddies, not a busload full of fans.

The other two options--Ball State & JMU--would be worthy of a bus trip.

Bus trips should be for long distance trips, part of which involves SLEEPING on the bus. I'd make either (or both) trip(s) if a bus ride was involved, esp. if the Coastal trip involved spending a few hours on the beach and/or eating some local seafood.

Probably right about JMU CJ. It is a little close. If the CCU game is at night, I would think we could definately leave early and incorporate some beach time and seafood before the game. I guess you could do it afterword if it's an afternoon game. It just doesn't seem quite as appealing to me.

The more I think about it, a trip to Presby might be something to consider as well, but Coastal and Ball State look like the best bets. The only problem I see with Ball State is that it is so early in the semester we would be under time pressure again to recruit students to go. It would be a Marathon similar to this year's trip to SB. The Coastal game almost seems like a no brainer. I could see getting more than one bus for that if it were promoted right.

For those curious, it is a little longer roadie than Louisville. But it is certainly possible to make the run if a bus trip doesn't materialize. I just wish we had booked a low level FBS game in the Sunbelt instead of the MAC if it was going to be a flight either way. But that's just selfishness talking.

The trip to Muncie is about the same distance as Stony Brook, but the scenery on the way would certainly be a lot different. If it is an afternoon game, a bus trip would probably be on a similar schedule; leaving at about midnight Friday and getting back sometime in the wee hours Sunday morning. I would estimate the "unsubsidized" cost per person to be about $65. Conway/Myrtle Beach would be about half that.

If folks start planning right now, I wouldn't think that cost would be a major impediment to getting on the bus ... Gus. Just make sure a stop at Skyline or Goldstar is on the agenda.

I agree Sly. We couldn't have pulled off the Stony Brook trip without the financial help we had because we had so little time. Being able to offer such a ridiculously low price allowed us to go from nowhere to a full bus in about a week. Being able to plan ahead should make the "real" cost more palatable. However, if anyone wants to step up and make a contribution to lower the cost for the poor college students............... we wouldn't turn it down.

A bus trip to Ball State,Robert Morris and Coastal would be great. I would be in 100% and I am positive that Mike Brown's family could fill some spots on the bus as well. I will check with them

If I wind up back in Indiana, I will be able to meet you guys for the BSU game if you show up. If I'm still in Lynchburg for whatever reason, I would probably go on the Coastal trip.

You won't be going that far. Perhaps UNCAfan could be convinced to go since he doesn't have a football team and he could check out the Creation Museum in Cincy.

depending on cost im game for either trip. Ball State would be fun, but Coastal would be great to go to especially if they are doing well in conference at that point... again either is a great trip

PC does have a nice campus. I nearly went there myself, but the $$$ didn't come through, but that was many a year ago I tell ya.

I'm bumping this thread to start a preliminary list of flamefans who are fairly certain they would go if we took a bus to the Ball State game. The time is sneaking up on us, and we won't have a lot of time to promote it with the students this fall, so I think we should have a good handle on how many we have from this core group.

The schedule would be to leave somewhere around 7 AM to arrive at the stadium at 6 for a 7:00 kickoff. That is allowing for stops for lunch and dinner. The return trip would commence immediatly after the game (around 10-10:30). ETA back in Lynchburg would be about 9-9:30, with a stop for breakfast.

I haven't gotten a quote on the bus yet, but it should be in line with what we paid for the Stony Brook trip. I would estimate the "non-subsidized" cost at around $65-70 per person.
