The Jerry Falwell Parkway Beautification Program, administered through VDOT’s Comprehensive Roadside Management Program (24VAC30-121), needs your help.

WE NEED YOUR IMMEDIATE HELP to make a valuable change to current regulations. Donor signs currently must be spaced ½ mile apart on highways with speeds over 45 mph. This limits donor participation and the number of beautiful gardens.

VDOT is currently reviewing an amendment which would allow each District Office to review issues arising from a permit application, and make recommendations and decisions for resolution.

We are in the comment review period (March 1st - 22nd) and URGE YOU TO CONTACT VDOT AND EXPRESS YOUR SUPPORT!

Follow the simple link below to comment:

From this page, click on "In Progress" and "Enter a Comment" on the following page.

You will be presented with a simple online form to complete and add your comments (suggestions below) - or just say "We support the recommended changes".

Suggested bulleted items that you may use (you can copy/paste or add your own):

* Residents and visitors love what a beautiful change this program has made. We foresee greater opportunity to increase our gardens and lower VDOT Maintenance with the suggested regulatory change to 24VAC30-121-40.

* We are big supporters of Liberty University. We would love to see them implement even more gorgeous gardens along their Route 460 frontage through donations.

* We encourage this regulation change to reduce maintenance for a state program already struggling with job loss.

* Our community could see higher revenue through increased tourism with more highway gardens.

He said it was looking like a trash heap or something. And coincidentally, my wife made the exact same comment the day before. There's a steep hill right next to LU that looks like a plastic bag farm, ready for Walmart to harvest.

yeah, about two days ago I commented how Jerry Falwell Parkway was looking like a landfill and someone needs to get out there and clean it up. But, you just confirmed my suspicion that no one really pays attention to my comments.

By the way, the school has thousands of able-bodied students and this little thing called "Christian service" (at least I think they do). If I was a student I'd sign up for highway cleanup if it took care of my community service requirement.

And seriously, there are more plastic bags on that hill than stalks of tall-grass. It's like the hill is trying to harness the power of the wind using plastic bags.

Gotcha, well this has been in the works for quite a while...however I do agree the hillside beside LU on the city side is looking awful.

And the conspiracy of the power of LUconn's ideas continues....how many are we up to now? :D

True, it has been a while...the last idea that the N&A stole from him was the segregated swimming pool in Boonsboro, and that was years ago!

You've one upped him for sure. Power of FF strikes again?

I went to Riverside Park on Saturday and I made a special trip over to that pool just to see my plaque. There wasn't one. How freaking long does it take to get one stamped and set up?

460 on both sides of the highway where the LU property starts does look horrible. with the VDOT budget cuts im sure picking up trash was cut. VDOT should get the local inmates out there picking up trash like NC does. i would agree that some student groups should do the adopt a highway program to at least keep the area clean. The city of lynchburg should be doing more as well, but they focus on the expressway. to me, 460 is the gateway to lynchburg, so why not focus the efforts there.

They have inmates out there all the time, but I think with the weather the way it was this winter, they probably had them making bracelets and wooden toys.

Please take the time to do this. I promise it will take 3 minutes at the very most.
