I was wondering why there was a 30 second TO after that stoppage. That is really stupid.

He traveled twice in three seconds, neither was called, and they called a foul on Chris.I'm not saying that refs are always correct. That would be asinine. We absolutely make mistakes. I wasn't part of this crew, so I have no idea what was said b/w each of them & the players.
ToTheLeft wrote:One other example:Different situations.
Dale asks them to check the replay to see if a shot is a three or a two. They charge him a timeout for the stoppage of play.
Greenburg asks them to check and see if someone was behind the line when being fouled in the act. No timeout is charged.

Chris had his hands on the ball before the contact was made. It was not a malicious or even violent contact so the officials should've called a held ball. Instead, they called the foul.ToTheLeft wrote:most notably when Amir tripped on his own, fell, slid with the ball on the floor, and then ROLLED OVER ON THE FLOOR so that, when Chris went for the ball he would be fouling him. Amir did not have clear possession going down. Also, you are allowed to slide as far as your momentum carries you. He landed on his right side, then went to his back at the same time that Chris dove on top of him.

They put that in there.....anytime someone jumps on top of another during a loose ball, its a foul. It was also a point-of-emphasis one year, IIRC.

SuperJon wrote:I guess officials disagree amongst themselves then too.Haha...actually, yeah. Some still have their way of doing things, that's for sure. But, if the supervisor of officials says to call that play a foul, & then some refs don't...they won't be on the staff much longer. You have to ref your league the way the supervisor wants you to ref it.
SuperJon wrote:If a held ball occurs before a foul though, shouldn't the held ball be called? If its a held ball while the player is in the act of diving, the guys I know are going to call the foul.

RUBaseball33 wrote:Okay, from a Radford grad perspective, the "you suck" chant in my opinion, is tasteless, and unfortunately it goes on everywhere. I have an eight year old son and I take him to many sporting events (especially Caps and Nats) and when I hear that chant, I glare at whoever is starting it (if it's nearby) and motion at my son and ask them to stop unless it is out of hand and then you just hope it stops soon. As you can probably tell by my avatar, I played baseball at RU and if there ever was a sport that received the most taunts it is baseball. As a player, if you're in the game you can block it out. As a fan, it is much more obvious what is being said (or rather, chanted).Like LUConn said earlier, no one means the original meaning of suck when they say it. Just like if you said that Blake Smith stunk from three in the game at Dedmon, you don't mean that he smelled bad. I only refrain from saying sucks because it's a rule. Not because I feel it's wrong on a personal level. If my buddy gets an F on a test, and I say "Dude, that sucks", I'm really not referring to the meaning of sucks that you are thinking of. There are a lot of words and things that, when you look at their origin, have tainted pasts, however, today they've become a separate entity. Regardless, I know I won't be able to convince anyone that sucks really isn't that offensive if they are offended by it, so it's moot, and I'm sorry for dragging it out. Just wanted to let you know the stance of the average 18-20something college kid, especially at LU.
The convict thing is mean spirited and has no place in college sports. These are not professionals, at least most aren't. I like the "where's my laptop", now that is creative.
I have no problem with USA,USA. No biggie at all. Just like it was mentioned in other posts, it's kind of funny to chant that when one of your best players is from the Ivory Coast.
As for the earlier post regarding the remark about her (I'm assuming it's a female) rear end, you can't assume (get it, ASSume! okay, poor taste and even poorer humor) that it was a RU student when there are over 2000 people at your home event. You also can't blame a whole student body for the act of one person. If she (again, assumption) is upset about that, then what about some of the stuff on this thread regarding STD's. Now that's classless and ignorant and just wrong.
Great game and a great rivalry. I've always liked Liberty and what it stands for. Just don't think that Liberty is immune from being human, too.
I will say with CONVICTion that RU is a wonderful school where I spent some of my best years that I will forever cherish.
Okay, nuff said.

You have to draw the line somewhere, and I think there are plenty of options without pushing the envelope of being offensive.Sorry man, but I just don't see it. But it's a rule, so I follow it.

jcmanson wrote:Dr. Falwell asked us repeatedly to never say "you suck". Because of that I will never be glad to hear an LU student say it in a public setting like a sporting event.Like I said, I don't say it, because it's a rule. Sorry to drag it out.
But are we seriously still talking about this?
ToTheLeft wrote: Even if the slide wasn't a travel, Amir rolled over on the floor. That is a travel, no? It's apparently a very big grey area if you're on you're side. Some officials will allow you to "complete" the slide by going onto your back or your stomach. Also, in the situation we're talking about specifically, Amir never rolled until Chris was touching the ball or hitting him.
RUBaseball33 wrote:I don't care about he literal meaning of it. I just don't want my child to hear it and repeat it as if it were okay. That is my point. If only adults were attending, I could care less.Whatever you say... I'll let your words be the last ones, since there's no way of convincing you of anything. Glad we don't have to go against Art again. Peace.
By the way, Amir's act was a misdemeanor, not a felony. That was the legal verdict. Please get your story right before you start slandering.
Finally, don't tell me about RU being far worse than LU when it comes to the trash. I'm sure it can get bad on both sides. I also can tell you about a few disgusting verbal attacks thrown at RU's women's basketball team a couple of years ago that I witnessed myself about sexual orientation and couldn't believe what I was hearing, so don't accuse one side of being worse.

I was just trying to say that back in your Lunatic era you had class and imagination - something the current gang is lacking.Jon isn't/wasn't the only creative input to the club. And by your definition of "class", he is on the same level as the current creative input, since we use the same chants and phrases he used while he was in the stands.
What's wrong with setting the standard for fun and quality heckling?
Is "Convict" the best you college boys can come up with?
