If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

Are you following some sort of BeTray apologist diagram? It's just business and now we're on step 2, he's doing what's best for his family. Yeah. We actually just posted the tax form with his LU salary on it about a week ago and of course combined with his buyout from UNM, he is in what I would assume to be the top 1% of Lynchburg area income earners. Or is it better to get his family out of the Christian atmosphere of LU/TRBC where they were treated like rockstars? Trade it in for Charlottesville of all places. Face it, he's a coward he saw what he had this year and he got out while the getting was good. For him anyway.

Liberty athletics, I think, is at an awkward point in it's development. For decades, working at Liberty was considered a ministry, and for a lot of the faculty that's still true. Many of us still have that mindset -- that Liberty is more than just another college, and LU basketball is about more than just basketball, and that when you come to LU you're coming into a ministry zone. With the increased exposure that LU athletics is getting, it's going to start becoming (at least for the coaches) a matter of liking the environment, liking the program, but being about following a career path.

I have no problem with that. When McKay said in December that God wanted him at Liberty long term, and then by the following Spring announced that God had changed His mind, I had a problem. Don't blame your career decisions on God, especially when you change your mind as often as Brett Favre. Either McKay wasn't really paying attention to God in December, or he wasn't paying attention in the spring. It trivializes the idea of consulting God when you're making decisions like this - it almost sounds like a cop out to me.

This is exactly what I've been trying to say since last year. Look at Rocco as an example of somebody if who left, I would have no hard feelings towards. Because he's doing things the right way.

The whole flames fan crew was eating the McKay fever up that year. 20 plus wins, and a lot of tv time compared to past years. Students were starting to get into basketball. He did a lot for the program in the short time he was here. To call him a coward is pretty ridiculous.

People’s true colors show through adversity. His first adversity was Curry jumping ship, and his true colors shown through.

And a lot of people turned sour on him once we saw that his gimmick coaching style was going to hold us back in the long run, and the way he was holding back every player not named Smith, Ohman, and Curry. And the fact that the team was constantly quitting on him.

That is fine, my initial point was that I thought it was ridiculous that forgiveness needed to take place for some flame fans. I mean we are still talking about basketball right? He left, I think he did a good job. Seth Curry was a pretty big recruit for Liberty and he brought him in. My point was simply I thought some of you took it a little to personal, thats all. Plus I am trying to get my posting count over a 100!!

I am sorry, but you are a complete idiot if you think some people on this board are wrong for taking it personally...I for one think less of the man because he said he would be here for the long term...and then got up and left and used God as a way out..I am not ok with that. sure he got seth for a season...then seth left...then he left...sounds awesome to me...

Don't get me wrong he was doing some good things...but he made me feel very silly for sticking up for him with the the RD fans out there...

Danny Rocco on the other hand has never come out and said for sure what his future holds and if he left tomorrow I would be upset, but not at him....

fans get lied to all the time by coaches, and people write it off, but it doesn't make it right at all

Typical flames fan fashion, if you disagree you are an idiot. Wow, I didnt see that coming. I am actually surprised it took that long. What happened with McKay shouldnt make you feel silly for sticking up for RD. That was a problem separate of McKay and in the end we are better than the direction we were headed under that regime. Thats a whole other subject and is water under the bridge.

the thing is normally I don't react that way...but you keep talking as if people aren't effected personally by the things said...and as if integrity is meaningless when it comes to sports

I have no personal feelings towards the man but there are plenty on here that do and I don't understand how you couldn't see that...

and don't try to pretend you are better then me...you try to tip toe around it, but you pretty much think anybody that doesn't see your point of a view is an idiot too, so you can go ahead and stop that crap

I never said or hinted that I was better than you. I stated my point of view and as always if someone doesnt agree with the general flames fan cult they are normally put down. Sorry Postman I see you have more than 5000+ posts, you are 100% correct.

That's a good thing... you only come around for the negatives, so if there's only been 100 posts worth of negatives in 3 years, we're doing well.

Thats pretty accurrate. I read this board all the time and only feel compelled to say something every once in a while, and normally thats when I disagree with something.

Not saying that's a bad thing. It ruffles feathers, but we need some of that sometimes. Just a sign of where we are. Not like USC where every week theres a new scandal or violation.

UVa assistant McKay puts free-throw prowess to good use
By: Whitelaw Reid
Published: December 10, 2011
For the second straight year, Virginia assistant coach Ritchie McKay is competing in “Shots from the Heart,” a charity event that aims to create more awareness of heart disease and benefits the Skip Prosser Foundation.

Mainly due to the fear of injury, a good number of players throw their basketball sneakers into the back of their closet when they reach a certain age.

Not Ritchie McKay.

Virginia’s associate head coach still loves to ball. At practices you can usually find McKay running up and down the court with players 25 years his junior.

“It’s a stress relief,” McKay said. “I’d rather do that than the treadmill or elliptical.”

The 46-year-old McKay still fancies himself a good shooter — and this season he’ll have the chance to prove it on a national stage.
