Why would anyone think Matt would transfer? I can't think of anything that would be stupider for a player in his situation. Take a year off from competition coming off the recognition and momentum of a first team all american season? Why?

Kickers and punters are basically the players who have the best chance of making the NFL from an FCS program. Unlike position players, there is no significant difference in what they do based on the level of competition. To be honest, even if he didn't have to sit, there isn't much reason to go anywhere else unless he hates it here or something, and from what I hear, the opposite is true.

sheppard, I think your question came totally from left field and we are curious to know why anyone would believe it was even something Matt is considering. Are you thinking that because he has had success and recognition he might want to go "big time" like a certain much ballyhood basketball player? If that's the case.................no. The situations are totally different.

Sorry to get you all up in arms. I was simply stating the facts of your posts. And as JK stated, wondering who you are since you obviously care about Matt so much. And for someone to wonder if Matt would be transferring definitely comes from left field as oldflame pointed out.

Strictly from a kicker's standpoint, another thing that would motivate Matt to stay put right here is that he has a GREAT holder and a very good (potentially great) long snapper. Those things are like gold to a kicker, and there would be no gaurantee he would have them elsewhere, even if he transferred to a FBS program.

LANG wrote:Bevins has been receiving daily treatment to try to heal the quad, but there is no tear, and he’ll likely kick again this season. He said he wasn’t sure if he was making the trip to Lehigh, but whether he does or not, he knows he still plays an important role this week — mentoring the freshman Kacere.

Bevins tore his quad during the spring severely from what ive heard..looks to be a re-occurring injury with less the severity. This is a positive and hope to have him back on the field..unless Kacere wins over the kicking job..Hopefully not a Wally Pipp situation

Hopefully I'm not sounding to obvious here, but we should save him for the conference games when we'll really need him. Until then, let's give him time to heal so when we're at stony brook and need to kick the conference winning field goal, we know who will be able to kick it.

I think Lang mentioned that in his article about him...there is no need to bring him back and then he REALLY has a career ending injury...its good that we have a solid backup on the roster (maybe two but Ive never seen Larsson kick field goals

Rocco talks often about having an athletic kicker , that likes to compete. Last Saturday I wish Matt was more of the sissy kicker type. Not trying kick while hurt.

And the guy still has a legit shot at an NFL career if he can get healed up.
