The Hose gave the Chants a scare on the road Monday evening ...
PC Official Site wrote:Late Rally Lifts Coastal Carolina Over Presbyterian College

Release: 01/04/2010

CONWAY, S.C. - After holding a second-half lead, the Presbyterian College men's basketball team fell by a 76-72 score Monday evening against Big South Conference leading Coastal Carolina.

The Blue Hose now stand at 2-14 on the year and 0-4 against conference teams. The Chanticleers improve to 14-2 on the year and remain unbeaten in Big South play.

Four student-athletes scored in double figures for PC, which is the youngest in Division I. Sophomore Chase Holmes led the way with a team-best 15 points. Zach Faircloth and Jake Troyli each chipped in 12 while Khalid Mutakabbir added 11 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. It marked the first double-double of Mutakabbir's career - and just the second by a PC student-athlete this season.

I said it on Coastal's board tonight and I'll say it here:

PC will finish in the top 3 in the league next year, and maybe even higher than that.

I say this out of complete ignorance...but are the 3 players they are red-shirting that good??? and what have you seen out of them this year that makes you say that?? I am seriously curious to why you think that

They finished tied for 4th last year if I remember correctly. Those players were sophomores then. Give them this year to mature mentally as well as all the additional time the rest of the team is seeing this year and it's easy to see how they could finish in the top 3. Their senior year though is the year I expect them to probably even be the favorite to win the conference. That gives them 2 more years to "warm up" for that season. They've made it public that's all they're playing these first 5 years of their transition for.

Two things:

1. The final score was 76-62, not 76-72.

2. Yeah, they're that good. Coleman is an all-conference player, honors he'll probably get his last two years once big Art is gone at Radford. Miller is a killer from deep and Johnson is a steady glue guy type of player who can do a lot of different things. There was no reason for Nibert not to do this this season. Who cares if these freshmen get their tails whipped every night? Build the athletic department coffers and give the young guys a ton of playing time, and then work them into the rotation next year with the veterans. Nibert didn't win 300-plus games when PC was DII for nothing. I think the guy has some chops.

I think Nibert is one of the best coaches in our league. While PC hasn't won any this year in conference, they had a few games go down to the wire and then only lost by 2-5 points. You add their guys that have actual experience and they win those games.

yeah lang is right, the score was 76-62, but it was close until about 5-8 min. left in the game. we've lost 3 heartbreaking conference games, and led each one until about 2-3 min. left in the game. We just do not have much if any depth at all with experience, we're playing 5 true freshman, a RS freshman, 2 sophomores and RS junior. Troyli and Holmes are gifted and are able to go for 20+ on any given night, and for us to win in the conference we need at least 1 of them to do that. Playing @ PC is pretty tough, not b/c of the crowd but no one is able to score over 65 in that building (including us some of the time). I hope we get some conference wins this year, but like it has been said before we're building for 2 years down the road. Good luck this week, except thursday! Go Hose!

Btw, didn't follow much of the preseason stuff but was coastal predicted to be this good this year? They might have been preseason #1, i just don't have the chart infront of me

The defending Big South regular season and tournament champions, Radford University were picked to finish 1st. They have already defeated the preseason 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place teams, not to say that is where they will end up.

yeah it's more likely they'll finish 9th, 8th, and 7th than 2nd 3rd and 4th

I don't think any of us realized:

a) how much of an impact Chad Gray would have and
b) how good Kierre Greenwood would be at the point. Two huge reasons why Coastal has exceeded those expectations.

Coastal is Good. But I still think radford is better. The teams radford have played without looking include kansas and some other big name schools in the top 25. The only major team coastal has played was duke.

As far as presby goes i'm hoping this will be a confidence builder but i expect a really close game. I feel for the presby fans and players in that gym. me and SJ went up there to clinton last year and there is no way you could fit 2000 in there without breaking fire code. I hope they spend some of that money earned by the basketball team on upgrading it.

The plans are to remove the gym at the back end of the building and and a section behind that basket eventually, but we don't normally get 2K people in there for a basketball game, so i'm guessing that doesn't happen for another 3-5 years. At least that was the plan about a year ago, with a new AD coming in within the next 2-4 months all of that could change.

So Radford is better than Coastal because Radford has played "kansas and some other big name schools in the top 25?" Got it.

Yeah, and what happened when Radford played Kansas? Or Duke for that matter?

Coastal has a WIN over C of C, which is looking pretty good right now. Don't get me wrong. I have enormous respect for Big Art and crew. In just 2 years he has probably established himself as the best post player in conference history, and this is coming from someone who saw almost the entire careers of both LU double zeros (Aluma and Nwosu) live and in person. Radford deserved their preseason favorites role, but based on performance so far this year, I think a strong argument can be made that right now the Beach Chickens are a better team. We will know a lot more on the 14th when they play in Conway.

Mason all i'm saying is that if Radford had Coastal's schedule they'd have just as good a record if not one game better with a win over cal state north. not saying they didn't get blown out by kansas and other big schools but at least they played them. I'm also guessing since the Cof C game was the first of the year that coastaln caught them unprepared.but either way i say Radford is better overall despite the record. we'll see head to head.

Radford also played D3 Lynchburg and D3 Roanoke, that pretty much negates playing Kansas and other big name schools in the top 25.

How about our 2 point loss to a VERY good William & Mary team (wins over Maryland, Richmond, & Wake Forrest) and a 27 point blow out over George Mason who in their very next game beat ODU? Not saying Coastal isn't good...which they are....but I do believe you were leaving out some very pertinent info...

you sure about that??? i could've sworn they were without 1 starter and that's all...jeremy simmons. checking their season stats, all of the guys in their regular rotation have played 14 games. that's except for simmons of course - he's played 13.

The week before that game, 2 other regulars to be counted upon sustained substantial injury. In the many weeks since, they've adjusted.

But what would I know. You're probably more informed than I. I'm sure you're right. I mean, YOU can read a season box score!

so you're saying then...that they still have 2 regulars out at this point, with one of those being a projected starter before the season began?

either way...good luck with presby - they're a scrappy bunch!

Templeton Arena does seat 2,300. For PC games, there has been 2K in the stands; Radford in Dec. 2007 was 1,902, Army in 2008 was a 2,500 sell-out, San Jose St. in 2008 was 1,445, there are a couple from D-II days as well. Most games are around 500-700 paid (the game you mentioned last year was 489).

I look for a hard fought game tonight that the Hose will ultimately lose because of depth and age....I say between 5-10 pts just like the other games.
