So now it's okay to humiliate someone or treat them like a caged animal just because they are older than you were in middle school? That's a load of bull excrement.

It's a dark shed!! How could they see him sitting in a dark shed? Was there a two way mirror in this punishment shed? If there were windows to look through - wouldn't there be light. If the guys sits on the ground - couldn't he stand up before the coach took off the padlock? What kind of shed was this thing? I'm a small guy, but believe I could kick any door down if I was in that situation. This kid is a bench player looking for attention in my opinion. "My coach made us run wind-sprints for 20 minutes straight!!" Don't worry - that is next...

We will see who gets a HC position first, Leach or Mangino?

The kid is such a tool that he took video with his cell phone and uploaded it to YouTube.

did anyone see the video??

the 'dark shed' had lights on and he was just in a darker area... when you say he put me in a dark shed i was expecting pitch black with like a sliver of light from the door...
i guess this kid wanted his 15 minutes of fame and now he has got it though, i mean he wasn't going to get this attention on the field...

guaranteed that if his dad wasn't involved with ESPN this wouldn't even be a story...

o and good job to Texas Tech, you go ahead and fire your most winningest coach ever over this... yet Bobby makes this guy look like a saint and how much did you keep him through??

i think there was more then we were hearing, and the fact that if Leach was coaching today he would be paid a bonus, thats not shady at all... im hoping Mike's lawyers get all the money they can for him cause this is just stupid and it really just looks like Texas Tech was looking for some excuse to fire him

SuperJon wrote:I told you last night that Leach should still be getting the $800k bonus. He has a ten-day "let's see if we can fix this" clause in his contract should anything come up and he is fired or whatever.
Don't know anything about the clause, but Texas Tech officials apparently told him to "fix it" - which meant apologize and change some of the ways he does things (such as not locking people up in sheds, for example) and he refused to do any of it.
#293306
That's why I added the "should" in there. The contract, even with him getting fired, should go into the new year which gets him that $800k. However, you know Texas Tech is going to try to find a loophole in saying that they tried to get everything fixed and he wouldn't do it, so it was his fault he got fired, and therefore they don't have to pay it.

It seems to me that an athletic trainer -- no matter how loyal to an exiting coach -- has no incentive to lie about something like this... Assuming the trainer is not lying, i'd say T-Tech is going to be writing a pretty big check to settle Leach's lawsuit. That is not to say Leach didn't act incorrectly...but i'm betting he walks away with a BIG check and a chance at a much better job.

FWIW, an athletic trainer would have EVERY reason to fabricate a story in these circumstances. As malpractice is to a doctor, so is mistreatment of an injury (and "concussion" is a buzzword these days) to an athletic trainer. Hed be fired for his complicity in the situation, and be unhirable elsewhere.

That said, his story appears plausible to me, and I believe the kid is foolhardy kid - with a set of parents who made him that way by bowing to his every whim, and this occasion is simply one more event in a lifetime of getting everything he's ever wanted. Families like that make me sick with anger & disappointment.

My take on this situation up to this point is that Leach never considered into what his known enemies (Adam & Craig James, TT President) could turn this activity. He gave them fuel for their fires, and they pounced. Poor read by the coach, and the settlement won't be enough, unless he simply stopped caring and wanted out.

You guys have no idea how arrogant Leach really is. And as stated by jk37, the trainer is being pointed at as an accomplice to Leach. Of course he is going to do whatever he can to downplay the story.

As for Craig James, if any of you fathers heard from your son the allegations that were originally reported then I think you have some understanding. The James gang is being cast as the villains by the angry Tech fanbase so they are paying a very steep price for this turn of events.

Texas Tech has released a signed, sworn affidavit from an athletic trainer who says former coach Mike Leach instructed him to "lock" receiver Adam James in a dark place and that he disagreed with Leach's treatment of James after the player was diagnosed with a concussion.

According to his affidavit, taken by representatives of the university on Dec. 21 and signed on Jan. 1, trainer Steve Pincock did not agree with the treatment and said he knew of no other player ever being placed in a similar room.
...
Phy told university officials in his affidavit that James "may not have been harmed," but he "considered this practice inappropriate, and a deviation from the medical standard of care."

if it smells like BS...
That's one of the most biased articles I've ever read.
well, since ESPN decided that Leach was guilty the instant the accusations hit, I'd say it's a refreshing change of pace.

ESPN Anchors REPEATEDLY said:

"Adam James, son of ESPN College Football Analyst Craig James, was locked in a closet with no water with a concussion..."

That tells you all you need to know...

"I don't want to say anything bad about the fans, but this is not the first situation that something like this has happened [with Leach]. This is just the first time someone stepped forward," Carter said. "I don't want fans thinking that Adam James did this because he was upset but it was just kind of the last straw, and sooner or later something was going to come out. This is the first situation that someone spoke up about.

"We always thought that Mike Leach was a great coach, and he always has been. This year, I don't know if it was personal issues or what not, but things just kind of turned for the worst and it just became a big distraction this year for us. And I think that's one reason we were so up and down this year, because some of the things that he said to his players and some of the things that were done. People just didn't cope with that."
