A pro-family leader says organizers of the Conservative Political Action Conference are engaging in "moral surrender" by allowing a Republican homosexual activist group to co-sponsor the prestigious event.

Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr., and Liberty Counsel founder and chairman Mat Staver have sent a letter to American Conservative Union chairman David Keene, warning him they will boycott CPAC 2010 if the homosexual activist group GOProud is allowed to remain as a co-sponsor of the February event.

The letter, which was signed by other conservative Christian leaders, asks Keene to respond by 5:00 p.m. (Eastern) today.

Incidentally the John Birch Society is the other sponsor of the event. I haven't heard them referenced in years.

In all seriousness you dont know how happy this makes me. Aside from leading millions to Christ the part that I loved most about Doc was giving "us" a voice in politics. You always wonder who is going to step up and be "our" voice....as more time passes the less many of us are wondering.....and I love it.

Side note...I hope they drop them b/c I really want to go to CPAC! If they decide based on the polls that were offered in that article the decision should be easy!

What advice would you give to CPAC organizers re: the controversy surrounding inclusion of a pro-homosexual group among its sponsors?
Ignore the social conservatives and hope for the best - 1.65%
[1.65%]
Keep doing what you are doing (highlight the issues where both sides agree and downplay the differences) - 9.89%
[9.89%]
Boot GOProud from the list of sponsors - 88.47%
[88.47%]

I wonder if that hypothetical is in any way relevant.

Answer: nope.

Your first mistake was thinking that they care about the haters.

Most people sell out because they need the money....lucky for us, it's the money that keeps us from selling out, b/c it's hard to forget how we got it and the faith it took.

In that case I guess its ok to be an adulteress and have multiple sex tapes, but speak in favor of gay marriage and suddenly you're no longer Christian or conservative and against Christianity and family values and can't be associated with.

I think you missed the part about relevancy and how there wasn't any.

Let me ask you this though, Would they be in favor of raising Thomas Jefferson from the dead and having zombie Jefferson speak at CPAC?

And the trap has been set...

What's more important: keeping your institutional values or playing James Madison in a conference game each year?

That is the decision that only LU can make for themselves. I would think that institutional values are far more important than athletic prominence.

Which is why we never had a chance with the A-10. But times are changing with most college presidents now in their roles primarily for the fundraising skills as opposed to their academic resumes. If schools see an economic advantage to their own cause by bringing in a school like us then they'll happily deal with the fallout from their faculty squeaky wheels.

I think it can be done, too. However, if we have to choose, I'm sticking to the values and belief system that Liberty has adhered to since the beginning.

I love football but I love what Liberty stands for more.

I'm no CPAC, but I just got an ultimatum from Jerry Jr. about switching car insurance. Seriously, I get enough junk mail, I don't need Jr. sending me insurance junk. Somehow I think this is HMO's fault.
