And who says Lynchburg never progresses? I'm guessing Campbell & Bedford County folks aren't in great shape.

Southwest Virginia is a mess, they had to close I-77 and I-81 last night.

I'm not going anywhere till at least tomorrow.

I'm really glad you made it safely Cider. I guess you were in the big truck? I have to say that I wonder if all that "book learnin" has stifled your common sense though. Unless someone was dying, there is no way I make that trip yesterday. I was planning on leaving early tomorrow to drive to Chicago for holidays with the family. Since my 80 year old mom will be with me, we're waiting til Monday to be sure everything is well cleared.

Tough to measure. The snow drift is all over the place. I can see some grass in my front yard and then my backyard is thigh high.

and it is still snowing. The radar shows it long gone.

Same way here on that last point, however in regards to drifts, I don't see any grass anywhere

There is no way you'll see grass no matter how much the snow drift....it's at least a foot out there

Yea, Olldflame, Mrs. Cider talked me into taking my 4-wheel drive Tundra instead of my Jeep (for comfort's sake). The last weather report I heard on Thursday night was that the snow fall wasn't supposed to start until sundown on Friday, so I thought I could get most of the way back before the snow started. Wrong!

It snowed from Nicholas County, WV all the way to Lynchburg. The worst of it was a steep hill in Iron Gate, VA, just off the I-64. Cars couldn't get up the hill, and I was sliding down it in my truck. I made it up and back for my uncle's funeral; definitely not a vacation trip. I drove about 30-40 mph when it was level or up hill; only about 20 mph going down hill in low gear.

Somebody told me today that a company makes heated wipers. I may have to check into that.

That is some funny looking snow down there with it's green color and blade-like appearance

Sorry to hear about your uncle passing Cider. Certainly makes more sense under those circumstances.

Campbell is starting to get plowed now, but what isn't plowed or what hasn't been plowed for a while is just a slick sheet of packed snow.

Well, I got my truck out of my driveway which was surprisingly more difficult than anticipated. And then down my street where I could feel the snow in the middle of somebody elses tracks hitting the floorboards. And then I got to the main road which had been cleared but was starting to freeze over. And then I realized I forgot my wallet. So now I'm back home most likely about to eat a sandwich.

Thanks, olldflame. I measured 16 inches of snow on my deck in Forest. I had to shovel my Jeep out and then went for a grocery run at the Food Lion at Graves Mill. They were completely out of all fresh hamburger and cream of potato soup, and almost all the bread was gone.

I had to go to old Rustburg road. So that's right down your way...it was pretty tough, mainly because they havent even thought about plowing....but I was in a Liberty so it handled it pretty good

It took me probably 30 minutes to get off of my road onto Campbell earlier today, and that's after shoveling out my driveway and all of that which took about another 45 minutes to an hour. Basically, it took me longer to get a half mile up my road than it did for me to get into North Carolina.
