Nobody here has deluded visions of Lynchburg being the pinnacle of the universe. I was simply pointing out that we do have major cities within a reasonable distance. We know that we arent in a major mecca that would send commissioners beating down our door also. But we are in a position to at least allow for exposure that not a lot of I-AA/FCS programs dont get (well outside of the big guns)

Liberty4Life wrote: It is nice that we have the MASN deal, but that's not really because we're filling their desperately-needed Lynchburg-programming demand. It's more of 'we are moderately in the area broadcast games on TV and they need to fill programming at 11 p.m. on a Saturday night' sort of thing.

I also like how someone pointed to a *regional* television deal as evidence of us being on *national* television.
You just showed how little you know about our tv deal. We've had two games (read: two, one more than one, one less than three) tape delayed on MASN. Everything else is live. We are able to get four times as many of our games on MASN as the entire Big South Conference.

If you knew what you were talking about, you would know that MASN was not the national television deal that he was talking about. Every single home football game is broadcast on FamilyNet. While that isn't ESPN or Fox Sports or something like that, it's in 40 million homes and people can watch it if they want to. You don't know how many people I've heard say something about how they were just flipping channels and saw that the Liberty football game was on.

We have negotiated more television coverage, on our own, than every single school in FCS football. No school is in more homes than Liberty University. While I respect your opinion, if you want to talk junk about Liberty's deal with FamilyNet and MASN and the types of stations those are, you open yourself up to a lot, especially if people knew the station you worked for in a major market.

L4L, you've done a marvelous job of misquoting me and others to set up flimsy arguments you can easily tear down. Let me begin:
Liberty4Life wrote:Do you seriously think any conference commissioner is saying 'Boy, we need to sure up that Washington DC market. Quick! Get that school four hours away!
No one [correctly]said that LU was a DC market team. What was insinuated was that as an FCS program, they do have a strong Mideast viewership.
Liberty4Life wrote:It is nice that we have the MASN deal, but that's not really because we're filling their desperately-needed Lynchburg-programming demand. I absolutely guarantee I know more about this than you. MASN loves its deal with Liberty, because Liberty possesses its own production capabilities. Furthermore, Liberty has a strong following and is marketable for them in the Mideast. Do you have any idea how well they sold advertising for lU's games? Do you realize that LU was also able to sell advertising at a record clip this year? That can only be done when its shown that viewers are tuning-in. MASN likes Liberty; they wouldn't if noone watched them.
Liberty4Life wrote:I also like how someone pointed to a *regional* television deal as evidence of us being on *national* television..
How many FCS schools have negotiated their own regional TV deal, along with a national network (FamilyNet), without any conference assistant? I know the answer, but I'll wait for you to answer, if you're willing...
Liberty4Life wrote:But whatever, if you guys want to live in some deluded fantasy land where Lynchburg is the pinnacle of the universe, then I'm not going to stop you. It must be nice.
No one said it was the greatest. YOU were the first to use that moniker. Others simply said that Lynchburg won't hold us back.

Liberty presents an extremely unique "market" based on the best thing any market entry can possess - singular differentiation: it is the largest evangelical University in the world. Such differentiation led to the FamilyNet deal, and will continue to be significant as the team continues to be successful, as well as through any conference realignment. It makes the school and football program marketable.

In the future, leave the sports business (and the debating, for that matter) to those who understand it.

LFL you are quite funny. it is very easy to get to raleigh in 2 hrs from lynchburg. i do it all the time and its not going through halifax. and JK, SJ, bee-jay are spot on with their assessments. half of the stuff you said you made up. the point is simple...lynchburg does not hold us back in recruiting.

If LU had beaten Stony Brook in the finale, y'all would have taken Weber State's slot in the first round and been playing in Wlliamsburg.

The only challenge I see LU having next fall is the road game at Coastal, otherwise, LU should win the BSC and the autobid.

As for the original poster, quite obvious he may be a poser by his quote saying that "your basketball coach left", yadda yadda yadda.

IMHO, Curry was listening to daddy and big brother, and McKay was a selfish poser. Just my .02.

Here is a big problem I see. I and many of the friends I went to LU with live a long way from Lynchburg, which makes it rare that we are able to make games. I can't wait for my son to get a little older so I can take hime to see his first LU football game. If I was not six hours away I would make at least a couple games a year. As it is, I listen or watch most of the games.

I hate this about myself, but if we were D-I, I would make it to more games than I do for I-AA.

This thread is confusing, is all the teams trying to leave the BSC or just football??

If LU football can jump to D-1 --- then I would try to get in CUSA, would be perfect jump for football and other sports would have to pick up their game if they would want to go also.... LU would have ECU and Marshall nearby for rivals.... just bypass CAA all together.

with the Big 10 expanding to 12 teams their will be movement the next few years.

It would be for all sports. The rest of the sports would probably get hammered for a few years (and football probably would too) but would pick up as the stature of the conference picked up.

Don't want to take us too far off topic as this is about football, but can't say I agree with the comments about the other sports getting "hammered" for a few years if we just conferences.

Volleyball, Men's Soccer, Baseball, Women's Basketball, Track and Field (et al), all do really well. Women's Soccer is quickly getting back on track, wrestling does really well. I am sure Layer will continue to build our basketball program as it appears he's here for the long haul and is an excellent coach. I think we have a very exciting athletics department and one when looked at wholistically has got to be a good candidate for another conference.

If I was only six hours away, I wouldn't miss a game.
Likewise ... I just wish I had one game a season within a 6-hour drive.

I'd love to see Liberty make a jump to Conference USA. If the whole "Big Ten and Big East Expansion" thing happens anytime soon, the Big East would lose a member, and assuming they'd expand to 12 to have a conference championship, they'd more than likely raid CUSA again. The obvious 4 schools that the BE would choose would more than likely be Memphis, East Carolina, and Central Florida, along with perhaps Villanova. That would be the perfect situation for adding new members. Perfect scenario would be:

East: /West:
Marshall /UTEP
UAB /Houston
Southern Miss /SMU
Liberty /Tulane
Appalachian State /Rice
Charlotte/ODU? /Tulsa

Of course, thats assuming the west stays together if the MWC gets an BCS bid...We could possibly see Montana, UTSA, or Texas State in place of Houston or UTEP.

I'd love to see this happen. A nice day trip from Huntington to the Lynchburg/Roanoke area would be a ton of fun!

(sorry for the long post probably none of ya'll care about....I just love talking about expansion)

My point was that LU grads are generally not in the Lynchburg area, which eliminates a good portion of your fan base.

I have a family(wife and son) and a full-time job (teacher and middle school linebackers coach= 60-70 hours a week). Add church commitments and any kind of desire to spend time with my family and it is impossible to drive six hours one way to attend home games on a regular basis.

Yeah, I know what you mean. All that and that pesky litte 32 hour drive get in the way of my LU game roadtrips.

Where do you think the largest LU Alumni Association Chapter is located? I'll give you a hint: the answer highlights the falacy of your statement.

Hint #2: Zip code starts with 245-

Sure most of them live there, but compared to other universities we have alot of alumni who are out of state.
