Our sources have confirmed that Doc Holliday (West Virginia Associate Head Coach) will be introduced tomorrow as the new Head Coach. Holliday will sign a five-year contract for $650,000 per season.
His base at WVU was $406k, with a total package near $600k. So, he's not receiving a huge raise. It was no secret he wanted to be a head coach, and that's home for home (Hurricane, to be exact). He was a top choice at WVU before they chose Stewart. His salary at WVU made him one of the top-5 paid assistants in the country.

With that salary, I think he can find a nice hme in Huntington

If he wins at Marhsall, not to mention if he beats WVU at a;ll while he's there, he'll get serious consideration for WVU when Stewart retires (+/-6 years).

One thing: I hope Marshall has deep budget money, because Holliday will SPEND MONEY on recruiting!

They are tripling the salary of their recently canned coach in the midst of a recession. Go figure.

Sly that's what happens when you get Jim Justice, coal baron and owner of The Greenbrier in your back pocket. That figure is 650k per, surpassing 800k with incentives I believe, but I could be wrong.

Well, everybody can move on and breathe easy now. It would have been a stretch for him to take this job anyway. I still love knowing that the big boys, by that I mean FBS schools, keep coming calling. Means we've got a solid coach and reputation as a program.

I'm not sure how any other term would be accurate.

And for the record, this was not a stretch for Coach Rocco at all. Thankfully it appears we'll make it through one more offseason with our current staff in the fold.

Sorry, let me clarify. It was definitely not a stretch for Rocco to get this job. I was trying to say I thought it was a stretch that he would seriously consider or take it. I think most would agree with his background and the early success he's had here that he would have his eyes on a bigger prize. Your definitely right Sly, this job was in play for him.

I spent most of the evening reading the Marshall & M-hole message boards about this hire. How well are the Huntington faithful taking the news that their AD is bringing in a WVU coach to lead the Herd? Many of the Marshall fans are calling this the second worst event in Marshall football history (the worst thing that has happened since the plane crash in 1970).
