Good game by the guys tonight. Some of the same mistakes as always, but we won, and we won big. It's all good.

we did not play well IMO. very lethargic, not much passion, it was like the game was in slow motion. zero crowd energy, so the players would have to draw from within. jesse and kyle did not play well, but i liked the contributions of konan, burrus and perez. anderson is even sarting to get his jumper going. these NAIA games are coming at a good time to prepare us for the UCF tournament and then conference play.

I watched the channelsurfing stream, and have to say I was a bit disappointed in this game. When I read that finals were scheduled for today, that explained a lot to me - but there was still something missing on the floor, it seemed like. We should have been able to put 90 at least on Shawnee State -- not only are they an NAIA team, but they're not a very good NAIA team this season.

I pretty much buy the explaination Layer gave in his postgame interview with Nick that he felt the team was mentally and physically tired from finals and the cumulative effects of a very busy early season schedule. If you look at the BSC standings, you see that we have played more games to this point than anyone else in the conference.

I also think a bit of credit needs to be given to Shawnee. They may not have much talent, but they looked like a well coached, disciplined group to me, and were clearly very motivated. Expectations for the margin of victory may have been out of line because of the Kentucky Christian game, but we can't always expect that kind of result, even when we play down. Kentucky Christian was short handed, with their top 2 scorers out. Apparently, Saturday's opponent, Houghton, has a 6'8" big who is among the NAIA national leaders in scoring and rebounding. Layer said "you will see a different team on Saturday".

I've been disappointed in Minaya this year. Last year everyone said that at times he was our best player in practice. That included Curry and Smith. Where is he? I know he's been out of games for a year, but you can't keep that excuse up all year. He scored 0 points against an NAIA school. Zero!

I was expecting more from Minaya too. He's shown flashes, but no consistancy.

I'm a big Chris Perez fan. He's 6'4", with legit guard skills, plays with a lot of hustle and agression, and has a midrange game that you don't see a lot any more. I think he has a promising career ahead of him at LU, and could develop into one of those 'go to guys" everyone is craving for.

I haven't felt the same about Perez. I think he may be the odd man out next year when JCS arrives.

They are TOTALLY different players. Perez could easily play the 3, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him start there with Kyle gone next year. I like Evan Gordon too, but personally, I don't rate him that far ahead of Perez. If J-C steps in and starts as a Frosh, it will be Evan who loses his starting job.

If both Baird and JC pan out, they could both be starting. I could see Baird playing the 3 alongside Konan and Carter. I imagine either Minaya or Perez will stick in the regular rotation for next year while the other is regulated to mop up duty. And that's if we don't sign someone else i.e. Bowen. If Bowen, or someone similar, signs in the Spring I'd imagine both Perez and Minaya not seeing much playing time.

Anyways, we're getting way ahead of ourselves.

I agree that if Bowen signs, it could mean limited PT for both of our Dominicanos. I think if Baird, JCS and Bowen are all as advertized, it could knock even Konan out of the starting lineup. We have so many Freshmen (again  ) and I think all of them have potential. It's really hard to know who will realize that potential and thrive, and who will be "recruited over".

Another positive from last night that I don't think has been mentioned is Johnny Stephene hitting a couple of 3s. We can definately use another outside threat, and if he can start hitting that with any consistency, his ability to beat his man off the dribble will be even more effective.
