Thanks, Sly.

I am pretty thankful that my kids have outgrown Dora. Problem is...soon enough, I will be wishing for the Dora days again :)

Have you ever had to read the books to them? They're exactly like the movies only with major plot elements left out. They are epically nonsensical with characters coming out of nowhere and then never to return. Half the time I expect there to be a page that says "Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention a couple pages ago..."

My oldest is in kindergarten so she gets library books now, and so far I've been very lucky because she always picks out the informational books about animals and submarines and stuff, pretty much all the things I liked to read about as a kid.

They used to watch a lot of Dora, but Nickalodeon is such garbage we try to stay away from that channel. My 3-year-old is funny. Even though she knows how to change the tv to the kids channels, she'll watch whatever's on when she turns the tv on. I'll come in and she's watching espn or something, she doesn't really care. Probably because she doesn't really like tv all that much.

I was browsing a Parent's magazine the other day and they said that children watching sports helps their brain development. And it's even better when they watch it with their dad because of the relational impacts.

Who knows if it's true or not, but next year this time I'll definitely try using it!

My girls will watch any sports with me. My son was always the challenge until this past six months or so when things started to click for him. Since he played flag football this fall, he now understands what is happening and ditto for hoops now that he is in his second season.

The girls just love hanging out with me. Now I KNOW that won't last. But it is awesome having two girls on my lap watching football right now.

Yea, I was the first child and am a girl...I think my Dad wished I was a boy because he took me to every LU sporting event, I sat and watched sporting events on TV with him regularly, I even asked for tickets to sporting events for birthday and Christmas presents, and to this day I still LOVE sports. I was a pretty smart kid (graduated third in my high school class, graduated from LU in 3 years) and my Daddy and I have a pretty great relationship! Don't know if its true for everyone, but manson I'd say its worth a try!

And Sly, you never know...it lasted for me...I still love going to my parent's house over Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks (I am a teacher) and watching all of the football/bowl games with my Daddy...and I am 28 :)
