JMU's Evans Sidelined by Kidney Disorder


The unbeaten James Madison women will be without their best player for the next few weeks.

Coach Kenny Brooks released a statement Tuesday afternoon saying junior guard Dawn Evans will be sidelined by an undisclosed kidney disorder.

"Due to the nature of the testing, she will be prohibited from any physical contact for a few weeks," the statement read. "She is resting comfortable, and doctors are confident that she could resume non-contact activity within a couple of days."

Evans underwent extensive testing at Univ. of Virginia Medical Center of Monday, according to the statement.

"We are hopeful that Dawn has a speedy recovery, and her health is our number one priority," Brooks said in the statement. "Our prayers go out to Dawn and her family."

Evans matched her school record with 38 points in Sunday's 75-73 win at then-No. 14 Virginia on Sunday. On Monday, the junior was named CAA Player of the Week for the third consecutive week.

Evans is averaging a team-high 26.5 points in six games this season.
